LFGSS and Microcosm shutting down 16th March 2025 (the day before the Online Safety Act is enforced)
I don't have an immediate idea to the running costs issue. But do you need to lift authentication to disable new posts, comments and DMs? If it becomes a platform you need to login to read, but no writing is possible either way, then no user communication is possible. Would that keep you out of the firing line temporarily?
I was more erring towards making sure there's a hard copy of the database somewhere which could be revived if a solution came about though. Cryosleep. You can't talk to a cryosleep person.

I think I mainly want to have a backed guarantee that the roof work they've done over our loft is good enough for many years.
In case anyone was worried about my neighbour and their dormer. We had a discussion with the contractor today who produced the following two pieces of information:
- The finished internal measurements were exactly as on the plan I had.
- He had an updated roof plan which was more accurate, and showed the dormer in it's actual position.
So it looks like the architect might have made some improvements to the drawing after submitting them to the council.
Nonetheless, they were happy to make some minor improvements to the quality of the work they had completed on our roof and offer us the same warranty as the rest of the project independently at no extra charge. My relationship with my neighbour appears to have remained intact as well.

Loads of duct tape and some choccy blocks.
As a more expensive option, Wago inline splicing conector and a good quality heat shrink with an adhesive inside. Although it would be a permanent splice you could remove it later with a great deal of faff if required.

All good points @Dugtheslug, @konastab01. And as you say @aggi, I wanted to air this dirty laundry to understand what the options were.
I think I mainly want to have a backed guarantee that the roof work they've done over our loft is good enough for many years. Especially where the new lead flashing on the chimney meets the existing tile and cement. If anything goes wrong, we it's not likely the insurance will cover poor workmanship, and we don't have any agreement with the contractor.

Thank you all for your scrutiny. As @Cupcakes has pointed out to me privately, the drawings are sloppy, but under scrutiny; I don't think they are ambiguous on this issue.
I think I will broach the conversation suggesting contractor error. We do have a party wall surveyor appointed prior who might be able to help too. So I'll contact him.
@6pt Yeah, I've contacted Lewisham to ask about enforcement procedure. Because the website says they just won't for permitted development issues. Seems pointless to get a certificate from them.

Exactly the encouragement I needed. I'll just tell the story:
Our neighbours have built a loft extension. We are in Lewisham. The extension should be under permitted development, and they did the right thing and submitted plans to Lewisham and obtained a Permitted Develoment Certificate before commencing the work.
The plans show a 300mm gap between the centre line of our party wall and the external face of the dormer. As shown in the attached excerpt. I like this 300mm gap. It means we can have a dormer with a 300mm gap too, and both external faces can have work completed in the future.
We signed a party wall agreement, and we insisted they engage a surveyor to check before and after the work to mediate. This was mainly because we have just plastered the wall and ceiling where they were installing 6x steels in the party wall for the new floor, and we didn't want to have to fill loads of cracks at our own expense immediately after decorating.
They have now built the dormer, and they have accidentally/deliberately built the external face right up to the centre line. (The roof may or may not overhang a few mm.) If the roof does not over hang, I believe this is still covered under permitted development, which I hate, but cannot complain about.
However they also took up tiles on our roof and flashed around our chimney. Very clearly on our side of the roof. They did not have permission to do this, and I don't think it should be covered under the party wall agreement.
Is there any way to complain about this? Am I being petty? As I say, I do like these people. What will I do if the flashing round the chimney starts leaking in a year or two?

I feel like there's going to be some good party-wall and permitted development knowledge on this forum. I want to ask about what our neighbours have done to our roof, and whether it's legal, and whether I'm being petty or justified in making a complaint. Is this the right place do you think?
I like our neighbours and want to be friends with them. But I'm not happy about their extension.

My Rega Planar 3 has been lying unused for a long time now. And it's time to move it on. I expect it's a bit normal for anyone on here, but if you have friends who say 'you're a bit obsessive about hifi xxxx, what deck shoud I buy to play my 80s classics?', maybe give me a shout.
It's an 80s model, with NAD-branded RB250 arm, AT95 cartridge, upgraded wiring throughout and a clear acrylic platter. It's really neat, I popped a brand new lid on it recently. I think £250 is reasonable.

I have a plumbing question, and having consulted some qualified people, I have turned to the oracle of knowledge, LFGSS for final sign off on my understanding.
I am installing a washing machine drain, and have found a swish, flush-fitting that goes inside a stud wall. I feel like it is standard in some EU countries and the USA. Mine's a cheap one, but this is the same: https://www.alcadrain.com/wastes-and-traps/prackove-sifony/aps4-detail
When getting ready to install yesterday, I considered that it has no vent built-in. And on the website above (where I was looking for instructions) I noted this model which does: https://www.alcadrain.com/wastes-and-traps/prackove-sifony/aps3p-detail
I think, in other countries it may be standard to fit a supplementary air-admittance valve on drains like this. In my case, it's going to be about 1m across to the back of the toilet where I will boss it in. Then the toilet is another metre from the main soil pipe, which is open up above the roof.
Do I need to put away my £12 version and buy the £32 with the built in air admittance valve? Or maybe add an air admittance valve inside the wall?

I suppose in some ways, it is technically a fixed wheel bicycle (with a motor and a clutch, so not totally fixed). I know there's a few people who like to feel like they're descending all the time though, so I thought it was worth posting here:
In excellent mechanical condition, with cosmetic restoration requirements to be mint again. It's an off road bike though, so it's up to you.
A joy to ride, I will miss it terribly but am not riding it very much anymore. Comes some spares: original exhaust, original windscreen, some brake pads, a spare headlight, this and that. MOT'd until July. Insurance is classic so cheap, and VED is cheap, it is ULEZ exempt.

I just feel like the niche types of people who are losing out here are the niche types of people who might come up with a community solution eventually. Rather than expecting you to come up with a solution for the whole country @Velocio.
