Sunday afternoon, gent on an unmarked blue ss with with red BMX pedals on rosebery Ave, you appeared to follow me to the off license and as I was rocking my best Sunday chavskank look I'm pretty sure it was not me you were interested in. If you were checking out if my bike was stolen fair play to you, after a strange pocket pat action you cycled off.
Anyway hi. -

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread. Last Friday my flat mate was knocked down by a van who wrenched right out of traffic on gt Portland st without indicating and then denied it...Luckily three witnesses came forward to confirm that he had not indicated. The old bill did not even bother handing in a report until my friend followed it up the next day. (I referred him to the 'what to do in case of an accident' thread thanks roxy). He ended up with a broken left wrist no front wheel and no income for at least a month, he's a courier.
I don't think this is indicative of all white vans, I have three working for me who are all aware (and often gob smacked) by cyclists. It's just worth approaching them with caution as most are working to a deadline and could be a total wanker as well. -

Sad to hear this Stelle, but I would say that there are groups of kids in that area, from the spa green estate on st John st and others, whose main mission most nights seems to be targeting bikes . I live really close by (rosebery avenue) and am not comfortable leaving anything unsecured round there.
-
I was stopped by a plain clothes officer on Proctor st for cycling on the pavement a while back...He informed me that thousands of blind people were now agoraphobic because of people like me!
I agreed that that this was truly a terrible thing and he sent me on my way.
I'm not sure where he got his figures from, but have found just being agreeable is the easier option. -

So, are you really tall? I'm 6'6" and I own a 61cm Fillmore. I find it (just) big enough. I think the Surly Steamroller is a bit bigger.
hmmm, actually it's for a friend (I'm really quite short) anyway he's 6ft 5 and being riding fixed on a 64 for the last few years and found that's what suits best...he's ridden 62cm and 60cm and found it uncomfortable...I guess it's personal preference.
