On 20th April 12 riders will be setting off from Swansea to ride the 200 miles or so to Piccadilly to the Japanese embassy to raise money for the Red Cross tsunami relief appeal. We are all riding fixed so will be pedaling every inch of the way. Any help would be much appreciated! As an ex London messenger i am used to riding a long days but i'm expecting this to be painful.....we should arrive sometime in the afternoon of the 21st so come and see what shape we are in!

I know it's Swansea so a tenuous link to London but i believe there was a London rider amongst the 21 racers.......

d0cA i think the hospital was there before the bike route.
Very true but the new door with the wheelchair access ramp is a new addition and i noticed today that the "cyclists dismount sign has been replaced by a "pedestrians beware of cyclists" sign....so is it a cycle route again? I wonder if in the days before the cycle lane they had a "pedestrians beware of donkeys" sign...? Can this sign be re-applied today for certain cyclists? Or vice versa the other way round pedestrian/cyclist.....bike lanes seem to be ill thought out wherever they may be...bad,bad,bad.

It's the cycle "path" through from Little Britain that i have many issues with...first no one realises it is a cycle route and give you the evils for riding through there...second i have to agree that going through there at speed with the new hospital entrance that offers no view of oncoming cycles makes it dangerous....third is the little newsagents at the West Smithfield end...fourth is the exit across the path into that weird little roundabout where taxis park all around to get there snacks and daily mails from the newsagents....fifth and most important of my gripes is the disappearing sign at the Little Britain end that told cyclists to dismount....it's a crazy set of mixed messages and potential hazards that make this cycle route a real bad scene.....it's a doozer of a short cut though heading north from st pauls to clerkenwell....my point is lost to me but my message to whoever decides upon and maintain these cycle routes is sort it out!!! Avoid confusion and don't have a cycle route right next to a hospital door or don't have a hospital door right next to a cycle route....oh yeah and it saves no time going through Smithfields anyway...look out for raw meat and a lardy surface....go vegetarian and avoid the area.
Just seen the post finger jockey.....thanks!!
