In response to the previous postings about Astana, man, I was SO gutted about Vinokourov in 2007, but surely Astana came down hard on him and immediately voluntarily withdrew the entire team etc...
... not much blame can be assigned to the team, surely? Excited to see the big guy return, though. I never paid much attention to the Tour de France wen he was in it, so this is kinda similar to how I really got into Rage Against The Machine the same year they broke up. They got back together this year! WooT!

Cool cool thanks for the tips guys, particularly about the free train to anywhere in Brussels. Thats a nice option to have, as I only have one day to do it, and Brussels - Amsterdam is about 150 miles. A heck of a lot for me, even if it is flat. So that gives me the option of cycling from the Dutch border, which might be much more civilized. A Belgian dude I met who lived in Brussels said getting out of Brussels is 'orrible so maybe giving that a miss would be an idea.

Hey gang! Taking advantage of Eurostar's new-and-improved policy on taking bikes with you, i'm gonna meet up with some friends in Amsterdam by taking the Eurostar to Brussels and then jumping on my bike. Has anyone cycled between Brussels and Amsterdam before? And routes or tips you can recommend?
Cheers all !!!

I just got back a fortnight ago from cycling London - Valencia (beat you, CG! :-D), that was an awesome trip, but one thing I learnt is that cold weather is better than hot weather any day. I was wanting to get to Gibraltar but by the time I hit Spain it was 40+ temperatures every day, you can't cycle in that. I gave up and went back to France.
Crossing Canada by bike, aside from the hills, I think sounds awesome, and the temperature will probably be pretty nice around now. The Canadians have a lot of respect for cyclists too so it should be really safe. Just zone out and push those pedals, I think it sounds like a great project - do it!

If you're in Toulouse anyway there's a massive Decathlon which will set you up with everything you need for very very cheap. God bless French Decathlon, we need more of those stores in this country. For the record, the ride from Carcassonne (where they filmed Robin Hood! Ha!) to Puigcerda in Spain is quiet and beautiful, demanding but not insane. In the Valley of Andorra its utterly gorgeous. Enjoy !!!

I've had nothing but bad experiences with Evans. I'm more than certain there are nice people who work for them, but in my dealings with them there has always seemed to be this attitude of not caring about customers with problems, as there are always gonna be another 10 brand new customers wandering in looking for their first bike and coming to Evans for it because it's the big name. They know they don't have to work to keep customers, they are just too big a company to care about it, or so it seems.....
Therefore, I support my local bike shop! (Apex Cycles in Clapham, they are awesome)

I've been looking for an excuse to take revenge on ETA for a while, here's my chance to make a small difference by SLAGGIN' EM OFF! I had my beautiful goregeous bike 'Hadrian' (may he rest in peace) insured with those guys for two years, but when he got nicked they refused to pay up on a technicality. I suppose all insurance companies try this bullsh*t but let me take this opportunity to ask you NOT TO DEAL WITH THEM! Consumer power, ha.
I agree with previous comments too, membership of LCC is cheap and worth it just for the 3rd-party insurance alone, never mind all the other benefits.
