Hi All,
I'm looking to profile some university students who have chosen to cycle as their main mode of transportation while at university, and was hoping some of you would be interested enough to help out. I'm doing this to create content / case studies that would compliment cost analysis to give to the press as supplement material for any upcoming back to school stories. What it would entail would likely be a 15 min phone conversation / or i could email you some questions, which i would then write up and you could approve. I'd probably also like to arrange some photos.
I'm doing this as part of my role at CTC, the national cycling charity. If there are any students out there that want to help spread positive messages about cycling by means of letting me profile you, please let me know!
many thanks, j

I don't quite understand the "strict liability" that campaigners are trying to encourage here in the UK. but it the perception is that under it the bigges vehicle is going to get the blame then it may be that it is one of the factors that changes road behavior.
on a side note, the road rage series completely depresses me. while it makes my partner laugh out loud.

I've been thinking about the "road rage" and cyclist on cyclist aggression for a few days since my partnew insisted on watching the complainers and road rage Britain. what strikes me most is that it seems to be culturally ingrained in us more with each generation the the individual has a right to be enraged at anyone or anything that impedes their goal. In the case of "road rage" the individuals right to get from A to B in the most convenient / quickest way. This "right" we feel seems to surpass all other considerations.
Tokyo, (as i recently mentioned in a Guardian article) is much busier its public transport, its roads, its footpaths all see more traffic than I've seen here, yet in my limited visit i saw no similar aggression transpire.Hence i am beginning to truly believe it's cultural. (that is not to say our road ways are as easy or wide as in other countries - they're clearly not.) But i wonder if our lack of infrastructure is only one part of the issue? -

i'd like to talk to you about a project actually.
I've found some plans my partner and i love, but they're only in imperial.
As you already know, and my partner pointed out to me this means a direct conversion will result in all sorts of ridiculous measurements.
So, i guess its to redraw to metric.
It's what they call a "tiny house".. could we begin a conversation about this? -
Charlie, you nearly made me choke on my coffee... "cultural superiority" I can't help but wonder how poor london is going to deal with two big rides on the same day :)
I love the map and CTC's one does the same sort of thing on a national level. it's not quite where your's is yet though!
There's also virtural participation which i think anyone who rides and tweets should join - its a "Thunder Clap" wouldn't it be sort of neat to actually have our mission for Space for Cycling trend (even for a second)...
anyhow its here #BigRide http://thndr.it/1sl5uTc -

I'm posting in the Campaigning thread. (a bit shocked about this)
Oliver, be proud of me! lol.So I'm working at the CTC now.. although I feel most people on here are not campaigners, I thought some of you would enjoy this aspect of my current PR role.
CTC have begun a "good" and "bad" infrastructure map for the UK as part of the plan to deliver a National Space for Cycling campaign.
Londoners will know about the LCCs #Space4Cycling campaign of which this is the next step.ANYHOW. There's this map. You can put pictures up on it of what is good or what is horrid .. it would be awesome if any one would be able to post stuff up to it.

Well, it's been a very long time.
I just wanted to say, it was a mild winter and aside from Duckie passing, it's been a pretty good start to the year.
My next adventure is due to start in about 18-24 months, we've been given a smallholding in Norway. So that should be interesting... we've picked a design for our house (which we'll build from our wood lot using our saw mill). And I will be trading in the water for farm life after the Norwegian and I tie the knot.
i really regret not getting the shark pits one.
