Is it me, or are BMX tricks just quite a lot better than anything this guy can do? The wheely is quite good. But the rest? I could do better skids on my mountain bike when I was 15... I'm not dissing his skill. Just unimpressed with tricks on fixed.

My long term plan is to convert it to fixed but....and some people might think this is ridiculous...I am doing a 40km road race (a part of a triathlon for charity) in June and I think it'd be great to do it on a vintage bike...yeah I'm an idiot! Besides it's looking pretty unrealistic at the moment

I don't really think this is old enough to count as vintage yet... it's just old. Like a scruffy car. Maybe it's now worth 2K if you trade up?

I had one a little like this for a while. Worked absolutely fine once I'd got rid of a lot of excess weight and I had many fun times on it. I'd recommend new wheels though, the ones on it aren't very good and a nicer pair will make it much nicer to ride...

if they hopped lanes to do it i intentionally let the cars in the hopped from lane move by smoothly and quickly so they wished they had stayed put.

I do this too...but even more so if it's taxis!

Does anyone else find they are a bit like the incredible hulk when on a bike? I'm generally fairly peaceful and quiet, but when I'm on a bike I get really aggressive. Any little error by any other road user and I want to scream at them for a long long time....

Anyone got any tips on how to be really nice on the road? Fluffy bunnies and kittens. That kind of thing?

I wish people realised what height the saddle should be. The number of people who ride heavy halfords mountain bikes with their ears around their knees really annoys me.

wow. I had a raleigh activator 2. Got it stolen from our gargage and replaced with a raleigh max. Happy days! Also had the generic peugeot road bike, the bad one. Can anyone remember what it was called?

Now this is pointless. Have you ever had troubles with having an unequal load on your bike? You'd also get chainline issues x 2 especially since most bottom brackets are asymmetric.

To the original poster: as you've already said, your pedals will unscrew, and you may struggle to find a bottom bracket which fits.

why only stick at left hand drive. I've often pondered building a bike with duplex drive, ie with a chain on both sides. A standard hub with two fixed sides ought to work, and then the load will only be half on each side.

Ok, so I have a QR but it's a pain to stop the chain losing tension over time. It doesn't come out but it just goes sloppy after a while of skid stops. Can I get chain tugs to fit with standard horizontal dropouts? ( thought they were just for track ends?)

My next stop will be the old bill. My question is should I take the bike along with me to police station and hand it over or am I best just telling them i've got it and leaving my details? As i mentioned the bike is not really worth much, i wouldn't want to have to go back in three months time if no-one claims it but i'm more than happy to keep it and wait for a phone call.? Anyone have experience of police lost-and-found?

Take it to poleeeeeees station. If no-one claims it within a month you can come and take it back again.

Although last time I tried it with an old Bianchi frame I found, they claimed no knowledge of it when I returned. So they'd either kept it and taken it home (possible) or skipped it (likely, since it looked a bit scruffy). I was gonna do it up.Bah

They also had a reynolds 853 racer in there. I wanted it. Lots. Should've have gone and claimed that instead. Steel is reel after all.
