It took me less than a week to get used to the fix (started about 6 weeks ago). You are "gently" reminded of the need to keep pedalling so don't worry about that. And in terms of practice - pah - it's for softies. I picked my bike up from Condor in the evening rush hour and pedalled across the West End home on the first day... Never looked back.
Re the snowboard stuff - no idea what sort of things you have but might be interested. Nothing to swap but could buy.

MrSmith i have a pista, set mine up with front brake on R/H side with a crosstop lever on the same side, the hood on the left is still there but i punched out the pin to remove the lever.
works for me, i like having a brake available at each position, having 3 positions is good for longer rides.
i don't see how you can ride on the hood position for very long without the hoods there? you have to tip your wrists right forward which would piss re right off.I think from memory you have the same lovely sky blue as me....
I know what you mean about no hoods - would seem odd to me. But then I thought drops would be odd a couple of month ago. I also know what you mean about having a brake lever to hand whenever you need it...
I suspect the short term solution is to set up like you (but with the levers on the left) and see how much use the front lever gets after that. I don't ride much up on the flats at the mo' due to distance to the brake levers.
(On the other hand those goldfingers with no hoods do look pretty cool.....)

photoben I was always weary of drops having riden bullorns of scorpion handlebars most of my life, but completly comverted now! Love that extra bit of speed you can get, and climbing on drops is much better than bullhorns!
Dirty harry lever (right hand side). Sorted.
Presumably therefore no hoods? Just rest your mitts on the ramp where the hood would be if semi-relaxed riding?

I seek your collective wisdom. (I know there has been some breeze shot on the which side should the lever be on point before.)
I've had my Condor Pista (with the stock drop bars) for a little over a month so about to send it for its free first service. Step 1 is a given - bin the back brake - it was set-up with a flip-flop hub but it's been fixed from day one (I was a bit nervous so wanted the possibility of single speed).
The rest I am a bit undecided on. So, thoughts please, on the following:
Do I move the lever for the front brake to the left hand side? I'm used to front brake on the right right from previous bikes (both motorised and pedal power) but having right hand free for signalling and being able to apply the brake with left hand while using right hand for security access at work (on steep ramp) seems like a good plan. Will I find braking with my weak left a bit odd?
I definitely want to fit a brake lever on the flats of the bars. Should I keep the regular lever on the front as well (and retain the hood on the other side) and fit a cross lever or ditch the lever on the drop and fit a BMX jobbie? I'm a little unsure here as (a) I don't know whether I would prefer losing the hoods or keeping them - I ride on the hoods quite a lot but is that just because they are there? and (b) I have no cross lever so don't know whether it would make the front lever pretty much redundant.
For those of you with drops but only a lever up top - do you ride much with your hands in the middle position (i.e. where the hoods would be)?
Arghh. Decisions, decisions.

RPM
socialamnesia Tufty club? elaborate please,
a near ped elimination club? sounds interesting.................Tufty and his animal pals were the puppets that taught a generation of kids how to cross the road..
as was David Prowse (formerly the body of Darth Vader, but not the voice) being the "Green Cross Code" man
we need them all back, badly
I really, really wish they had used David Prowse as the voice as well. How cool would it have been if Darth Vader had a broad west country accent?

Agree re Kloden and your points on trying to test. I almost think they should not hold a Tour next year at all and make it clear that it is to allow time to try and clean the sport up.
Is the only solution to drastically shorten either the total length or the length of each stage (or both)? Make super endurance less of an issue?
Can't decide whether I feel sorry for Millar or not.

I hit some stupid Ali G lookalike (big anorak, baseball cap, bum fluff 'tache) on the cycle path in Hyde Park near Hyde Park Corner yesterday.
Bunch of kids meandering on and off the cycle bit (it's split - about 2/3 for peds, 1/3 for bikes). I shouted "coming through" or something - most of them moved. One had his iPod in (I guess) and didn't notice and bent over to pick something up. Couldn't avoid him as his chums were in the way so slowed as much as possible but, wham. I went over the top of him followed by the bike. Ouch.
He of course jumped up threatening to do all sort of unmentionable things to me (argh - 15 year olds). Of course easy for him to be brave in the face of 30 of his mates. Situation not helped by the fact that the girls were laughing at him and the boys taking the piss.
Anyway he decided that given the police car opposite he didn't want to chance it. Obviously I took the brave route of waiting until I was clipped in and rolling before calling him a little cnut.
God, everything aches today though. I hope he's still getting abuse from his posse (and is at least a little bit sore - although given the large age gap I suspect he has recovered...).

natureboy if we can get him to take one that is.
Gah. So true.
Plus (probably unfarily) you have to question how such a puny specimen can haul himself round.
Anyone read the Sunday Time articlewith a former friend fingering (oo-er) him? (Admittedly by David Walsh who has been hounding Lance for years.)

Hello - this is mine. Thanks to the person who messaged me on eBay.
Not a fixie (could be if you wanted!) but I moved to this from one years ago. Knees have given up now so needs a new home….
Any questions do please let me know, and I’ll make a proper post in the right place on the forum.
Cheers
