I also thought 48:17 was an easy gear. Then i cycled all day on it for a god 6 months or so, but after a while of going home to brixton...(chilling for a couple of hours) then going to see my girl in tottenham...realised that my knees were fcucked and couldn't cycle a metre for two months...spinning is for winning...i wanna be able to walk in twenny years...still get pain but is manageable...gear choice is really important...more important than i had thought...

marcH I'm looking at getting an off the shelf SS. Am currently torn between Fillmore from LeMond and the Genesis Flyer. Definitely want a steel frame, think as far as looks go the LeMond is just ahead, but a £50 more... plus the Flyer has Reynolds tubing, which I can't say I know much about but it's always mentioned in the reviews!
Am going to call into Cycle Surgery and Evan's in Holburn tomorrow to see if I can arrange a test ride both. Looks like the Genesis is easier to get hold of. Anyone got any tips when looking at these two bikes? Or suggestions to which way I should go? All advise and help welcome!
Can get hold of the lemond at brixton cycles, and to me it looks like a better bike...

the first significant number of street track bike riders started years ago. And it was amongst the jamaican messengers in new york who had previosly been riding track bikes in jamaica as youths. Years and years ago, and probably still today, riding a track bike in jamaica was more common than riding a freewheel one. I have spoken to many people 50 plus that used to ride them....

Impatience in a Hgv can be very frightening. A foreign HGV the other day tried to accelerate and squeeze past a car on left side at (I think) junction of bishopsgate going into wormwood st. He did it with such disregard, that he mounted the kerb and there was the real potenital for him to tip over. Cyclist that was on his outside would have bee mincemeat, doesn't bear thinking about. I just think there should be restrictions during the day on these hgv's that have limited knowledge of driving in london.

I love thos green huts, can get a damn good bacon sandwich at the Pont street one...they're pretty friendly to messengers there....but can't agree with tramps, i have let good few cab drivers know that they nearly ran me over the road...but they never noticed...instead got out the cab and challenged me...thinking i had done something to their cab!!!

hippy Coming into summer there's probably a thousand other riders who've thought about giving it a go. One day a week? Um.. didn't know anyone would employ on that basis?
yeah, already seen quite a few new faces, and i've got mates that have been asking about it, more likely to be doing little part time bits once you have the experience
