TheDude - Where does this 'one-sided view that cyclists are never to blame' come from? I don't hear anyone spouting it other than you. Outside of internet chat forums ie in the real world the blame seems to be consistently - and usually indefensibly - laid anywhere but at the feet of the motorist when tragedies occur. We've seen this with the 5 deaths referred to above, we've seen this with the 500 quid fine doled out to the driver at Rhyl, and we all experienced this in a less lethal form virtually every day we're on the roads when some cock cuts you up / passes too close / left turns on you. And there's yet another example of this already in the MT thread that Bill's referred to - a first hand report of a rider being told by plod that they shouldn't be on the road.
Whenever this debate comes up someone always comes back with the same old straw man argument about how they've been disgusted at the lack of regard many of their fellow cyclists show for other road users when they jump red lights, ride on pavements, without lights etc etc. But at heart this is nothing more than a load sanctimonious self-loathing twaddle intended to deflect attention from what we all know - by daily experience - to be the real issue; the very real lack of rights and protection under the law that cyclists are afforded by the authorities and courts whenever a bicycle/vehicle collision occurs.

Jos - re the Zesdaagse film; I was at het Kuipke that evening and it will forever be one of the saddest days of my life. It's a fitting tribute to a man who died wearing his world champions bands. Thx for posting.mickster

Personally, I wear Lycra whenever I can. On the bike, off the bike, down the pub. Cycling's left me with a killer shapely ass & legs and I'm sure as hell not gonna hide em under some loose fitting MTB/Slipknot derived poly/cotton bushel.
So come on people, make an effort to get rid of the gut, tighten that flabby backside and firm up those legs and learn to make friends with your new lycra clad body. Shave some of that monkey hair off of them legs. You won't regret it, and as a bonus you might even find yourself getting more attention from courier women on pink bikes... Trust me - Rapha's had its day - Etxe Ondo and Assos are the new fakenger must have's for this season. And at the risk of getting all 1980s about it I'm not sure about all the college frat boy 'gay-as-a-perjorative-term' thing. I reckon some people in here are in danger of protesting too much: Buddha, I sense a closet lycra wearer in there screaming to be outed. Go on, lose some flab and take the plunge ;)

you used to be able to get shimano 105 calipers in long reach version - think they're 57mm. Not sure if they're still in the current 105 gruppo. Try looking at the shimano site or asking at yr lbs maybe. Or as rpm said try a bike jumble if you need to do it on the cheap.

Had same problem with my gf's Merckx. Tange Levin is cheap (12 quid or summat) and has a short stack height (33mm). It's not a pretty thing though, FWIW.
Beyond that, its either persuade a builder to braze on a new steerer / steerer extension, or splash for a new fork. Or the Chris King.mickster

I think the spokes for the Shamals might be proprietary ie you need to get replacements from Campag. Try calling Mercian as they stock loads of Campag spares. 01332 752468. They'll be able to confirm whether the spokes are a proprietary size.
You might have a problem - a friend has been trying to source some spokes for a 2002 Eurus wheel and even Campy have stopped stocking them for this model year... At least you'll know for sure what the situ is if ya call Mercian.HTH

laplusgourmande:Does anybody have a 13T or 14T track sprocket? I want to go to Herne Hill next monday, but i won't be able to do it properly on my gearing.
If no luck trading you're welcome to borrow either size from me for the session. I've got tools to change em over too. I'll be there tomorrow eve (wed) and Sat morning. Riding an orange / white Koga.

The Saturday novice session is at 9am-10:30am. The 10:30am session is for people who have already attended a novice session; it focusses more on skills & drills. If you're new to the track it's important to do one of the 9am sessions first as you'll learn lots of important stuff about track safety and etiquette etc. which the later sessions assume you already know. You can always stay on after the 9am session and do the later sessions the same day - 4.5 hours of track time packed into one morning. Cool!

I'd try it out first before ditching that spare tub - I've tried the Tufo sealant and it held ok up to about 100psi but over that it failed and just oozed back out of the tub.
So ok if yr on the road and need to get home, less good for use if you're using the tubs at higher pressures at the track.mickster

Knucklehead:I've not been to a track meet before and have a few questions I hope someone can help with.
1/If the first event starts at 11am what time will the Kierin, event 13, likely start?
2/ Is event 18 the last event or will there be finals beyond the listed ones in the program?
The Golden Wheel Scratch (event 18) is the last event. As Jos says its just a 'first across the line wins' mass start race. All riders start together. It's the most pretigious of all the races at Good Friday and has the richest purse - the winner usually gets about a grand.
Timings are obviously a bit ballpark depending on how earlier events ran, but the meet usually finishes by around 6pm. At a guess I'd say event 13 is likely to be around 4:30pm. This is very approx though. You can buy a program on the day which lists events, riders, and describes what each event is. You'll enjoy it - teh racing is great to watch and the atmosphere around the place is also great.

Nah, but I've used their track tubs (S3 Pro and S3 lite). They go on straight and are well made, but they really do have loads more rolling resistance than evry other brand I've used. Probbaly not a big deal for road, but could well be for track. And on rollers, they feel like you're running a gear 2 cogs smaller on the rear they're that bad. Suspect this is to do with the one-piece construction so would likely be true of the Tub-clinchers too. I reckon you need to traditionally-made tubs if you're looking for that tub feel on the road.

agree 100% with fixedpip - sell the campys as you'll get some daft trust funder paying big ££££ for 'em. And race the 7600's relaced to something nice. I've had good experiences of Ambrosio Thesis, but maybe hard to get now. Reflexes are surprisingly nice and a good compromise between weight and durability (375grams). Or if you want to go more bling see if PlanetX will sell you a pair of 28h 50mm carbon rims to lace em to. I can vouch for these rims - light, stiff and really nicely made. You could pay for em from the dosh you get from selling the campy's.
