We'll also set up a meeting early Jan irl or more likely online (Google meet?) to agree roles and next steps.
I'll speak to @Velocio to see when they're available to meet

Personally I feel like it's easier to have 10-50 people who are familiar with the moderation rules in depth and encourage other users to make liberal use of report functionality.
Agree, much easier to manage. Also people with different areas of expertise can be allocated different sub forums like at present to some extent. A smaller group can collectively discus and reach consensus easier for tricky issues

LFGSS and Microcosm shutting down 16th March 2025 (the day before the Online Safety Act is enforced)
Seems like @Velocio now thinks discord will inevitably be the new home and that that's the best of bad possible outcomes. So long as they can move on from having any responsibility
However there is traction in terms of a number of people offering time and expertise (see lfgss collective thread) to at least explore options once there are compliance tools published in Jan.
I assume Velocio will still advise this group if it does get together

I get this completely though as a non techie and anarcho-syndicalist I prefer running the forum as a collective even though this means working within 'the man's' directives
It is worth persuing both routes at this stage and to do so you would have to support / advise any governance working group (which I'm sure you will :}
-
The point would be to shutter all UK focused sites (hyper specific and 100% UK such as Islington, Brixton, etc).
I get that this would possibly be a solution though if we can sort the other stuff to become compliant that wouldn't be necessary
Though perhaps from your perspective Dee, the tech solution would be more easily achievable than using the governance route?

I'm still don't understand why there's a need for hosting the site outside the UK and all the rigmarole that entails since most users will be in the UK.
If we do establish a legal entity underpinned by cooperative principles to bear the liability
And work on compliance with the new online safety guidance using the tools to be published in January with a group of people on here, legal and governance
And sort out how and who from us work on monitoring, moderating and reporting
And sort out the finances to run the forum
And mainly ensure @Velocio 's role is solely advisory and they bear no liability or responsibility
Then we're OK.
From the skill set offered by people on this thread we should be able to cover these bases, or finally conclude that we can't.

In terms of the liability of individuals of a collective/cooperative there is none, unless an individual has done something illegal.
Directors and Co-Sec of such entities are responsible for ensuring all compliance (as with any company) so will need to demonstrate they have done what is required. This means that the group running the collective would need to ensure they have the systems in place for moderation, reporting etc.
I was always insured as a director of various entities (D&O insurance)
Effectively were people to step up and take on/share this role they would need to ensure LFGSS has done all needed to comply. So the additional information that comes out in Jan will need looking at and acting on.
Though everything depends on people on here stepping up to take on roles or else, rightly, @Velocio has no choice but to close the forum
