Hi, my right shifter has given up on me. I can't find a direct replacement for the easiest solution and so it's probably cheaper to just buy a set (any type Tiagra, 105 etc) to replace the current one except that might affect the current set-up I have, which is 3X9 Tiagra rear mech, Sora front mech.
Pic of the current one attached - can't find a model number on it though.
Advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

Hi, the bike shop (Decathlon and Halfords) said they couldn't fix the shifter (see pic) and I'd need a replacement.
It's the right shifter/lever for the rear Tiagra mech.
Presumably something similar on ebay would be suitable replacement it but I'm always 2nd guessing this stuff. Any advice, cheers.

OK, now about 6 wks after the event and I've had a recent update.
Basically, the PC said he 'had difficulty finding the details of the driver from the database' and that the car was registered to a 'trade company' and didn't have any specifics....
I queried that if the number plate, car model etc were known, then surely all the information is on the database? (Sorry, I don't really know how all this works but assume if there were a big crash involving the vehicle, then all details would quickly be known.)
The PC then asked me to go into the station and hand over my dna so 'they could eliminate my dna which might have contaminated the evidence.' (Just after the incident, I had handed in the bottle as evidence.)
Naturally, I complained about the whole thing and was told I'd get an update soon.
However, I can see what's going on here. I'm very unlikely to get any sort of 'justice' or satisfactory closure. They haven't even spoken to the driver. As much as I hate to say it, maybe the smart move is just to forget the whole thing and move on.

So, trying to save a buck, I was hunting down a new bike on facebook and gumtree.
I had 2 experiences which were clearly not legit. I asked one seller to confirm the bike wasn't stolen before making the journey whereupon he assured me it wasn't and that doing up bikes in his spare time was his hobby. That was what I wanted to hear and so I took the plunge and made the trip across London. The bike was exactly what I was looking for and a good price. The problem was after I asked a couple of questions it was clear he didn't have a clue about bike mechanics. So this set my alarm bell off as he was already contradicting himself. So I politely declined and went about my merry way. The seller still has listings on FB and GT with descriptions like 'the 58cm Allez - a rare model, grab yerself a bargain'.
Another seller was advertising Allez bikes for £75. So I messaged and was given this message:

I eventually found something which was a good deal and I don't think the seller was crooked. However, the seller did tell me he was sold a written off motorbike (frame damaged) by someone who lied to him about its condition and so there's another story FWIW. The point is I don't normally spend much time on facebook marketplace or gumtree looking for deals but just this little foray has clearly exposed something here.

Hi, further to my post about a trade in and mechanics, here's the full spec of my steed with pics.
The cassette wasn't fully secured to the freehub which caused damage to the grooves. Then when the mechanic tried to replace the freehub he couldn't remove it from the hub, which means the hub is probably finished.
There's also a shifting problem where it won't go from middle chainring to large - I have to go to from large to small and then up to middle. The mechanic suggested it was something to do with the position of the rear mech hanger but who knows.

Hi, I've got a bike with some decent components on it that'll have some value. However, there are various mechanical issues which are beyond my skills and patience. So, can anyone recommend any good places in London which do trade-ins? I think there's a place near Kings Cross that does that sort of thing. I guess I can go a bit further out if it's worth while. Cheers.
Couldn't agree more about complexity of modern bikes. I bought my current bike for 200 quid on FB but now I can't use it cos of aforementioned problem, which'll cost me X amount to repair. Ho hum..que sera...I've found a 2nd hand set elsewhere now. Thx.
