Hi Clubman.
Yes I'm aware that cycle shops used to rebadge frames supplied by more mainstream builders, it causes a bit of a dilemma; rebadge with a guess as to which builder actually made the frame and this of course means the frame number doesn't match the claimed decals used: or, as you suggest use any random badge, but leaves you in the same situation. I guess I could get Lloyds to copy what is able to be read and invent the rest from historic photos. If indeed it does read Bromley Kent and what looks like 'Long' or 'Lond' just above and 'xxxx' cycles in the arch above then something akin to what it once was might be achieved. Thoughts? As you appear to be a preservationist, I thought you may have an opinion? Thanks C -

Hi
Something off topic, but I'm hopeful that some of you specialists will be able to help. I bought this frame on spec. without knowing anything about it. My guess is late 40's early 50's - it's very similar in construction to my brazed Ephgrave from 1948 and 1948 Hobbs of Barbican Criterium, except both of these have a seat tube collar. The head badge/decal looks like 'lond..' so could be a London maker, frame number 22 so early in career or near the end! Super light frame, forks match the frame number. Anyone out there able to hazard a guess as to the maker? I'd like to restore, so finding a good image for Lloyds to copy the decal would be great. Any help out there?Ta. C -

Thanks Veloham. I think you have nailed it! The frame was sold to me as a Higgins Ultralight, but was obvious very early on that it was not. I have 2 x Hobbs Criteriums which I'll have to date, now I know where to find the frame number and can work back from there. What happened to your Clubweight? Is there any value in my frame do you think? Ta C

Just bought a bike from ebay
Purports to be a Higgins, but it's not.
Built in the early 50's, brazed, not lugged, Frame number E2496 on the near side rear drop out and steerer tube. Looks a bit like a Claud Butler Jubilee with the top of the seat stay shape, or Holdsworth La Quelda but neither have the right numbering pattern.
Anyone able to shed any light on this?
