Wunjo's are really relaxed and you can pick up pretty much any guitar and have a go. They don't stock Gibson/Epiphone though, aside from the odd second hand one, so that might be a factor, but at least you have other stores nearby.
In general, Denmark st is good from the low pressure POV as they're clearly used to having tourists and perusers drop by with no real intent to buy but I've always found the Wunjo's staff to be really friendly and helpful if you need them to be.
What style of music is he into and what does his band play? As @RonAsheton says, a Squier Jazzmaster can be a very capable guitar, so maybe also worth looking into pedals/amps?

This, get used to your grinder and you'll quickly get a decent gauge of it. First shot might still not be tip top but likely drinkable (and likely better than what you'd get from many coffee shop!), but the next one will get you well into the ballpark if not there.
I genuinely have never found h0me espresso to be a faff and you really can get consistently good results without spraying from tiny bottle, WDT and shaking and so on and so forth. Just takes a bit of sticking to it at the very beginning and getting to know the equipment.
Also if spraying around is an issue, just ditch the bottomless PF, spouts save clothes and don't diminish the result in any way.

Formally posted my JX Pro for sale right here in this FS thread should anyone be interested!

The perfect Christmas present for the coffee lover in your life right here.
Owned from new and well looked after, does filter, espresso and anything in between. In truth the espresso settings aren't quite as fine as it goes, so even Turkish is on the cards here. Personally, I've only ever used for espresso which it's reliably delivered with aplomb but get really good reviews for other brewing methods.
I'm looking for £90 and can meet in Crouch End or central London (near Charing Cross). Can also post at cost if need be.
Any questions, let me know!

The fella who pulled Cucurella's hair owes his team and fans a great big apology. What a moronic thing to do and nice to see the ref having no time for that shit.
On the reverse, gobsmacked by the refereeing red carpet rolled before Liverpool once again: a stonewall penalty denied to Newcastle at 2-2 and then blowing time during a Newcastle 3v1 break. The mind boggles, except it's sadly to be expected.

Another happy, mess free user of a DF54 here. Saying that, it currently does get a little few grounds stuck around the chute, but I have not cleaned it in at least 3/4 months and it's pretty minimal.
Retention is also super low and as much as some people have an issue with bellows, they just work and are mess free unless you really twat on them, which you shouldn't. I mean, I've seen conversations between Philos owners saying they were looking for bellows mods to become available on Etsy, so...

Correct, it's included. If you buy second hand (as I did) make sure the previous owner de-registers it from their account and you can use the serial number to register it to yourself and get access to Genome.
I would say though, if you do go down a cheaper path (like the HB box) a free IR loader goes a long way and there are good free IRs out there, as well as cheap packs that sound great (York Audio I'd say are the pick of the bunch and only $15), so it can all be done on a much tighter budget too if you're just dipping your toes.

It's the standard one (not the X), mine is the 16ohm one as both my AC30 and AC4 have 16ohm speaker outs and the two amps I hope to be building in the coming months will have switchable impedance.
If I was playing live and wanted to go down the straight to desk route I'd have shelled out for the X, but for home use I see no downside in going through Logic (or you could use Genome as a standalone app anyway) and actually like that I can tweak the cab after recording.
I'm not sure how much better it is compared to the Harley Benton box in all honesty, will need to test them side by side to see how that goes, but definitely feed a higher signal to my audio interface and has a few more options in terms of output.
The HB is much better as an attenuator though as you have a dial to choose anything from no attenuation to silent/dummy load, while the Captor is either no attenuation or -20dB which is a HUGE reduction in level, so if attenuating is something you're interested in that's definitely something to keep in mind.
-
Yep, had a basic Harley Benton for a while and then upgraded to a Torpedo Captor. From there I go into Logic and load IRs in there. There's a lot of plugins that do it, some for free, but since getting the Captor I use their Genome plugin. It comes with a load of dynamic IRs though I tend to default to the York Audio IRs I have which sound great!
-
I actually don't think it's that bad but then again, I'm not an actual sound recordist. I do think a lot of the hate comes from its straying away from the traditional format as much as anything as it does its job of recording audio well.
If the F4 would work out cheaper it might well be worth holding out for one, but if prices are similar it might be worth looking for one locally on fat llama or similar and rent for a day to see how you get along

Cheers! I had a look but they are pricier than DJI's own official refurb'd which come with full warranty, so that might just the the way to go. Their UK black friday starts on Monday so we'll see...
For what it's worth, I've used the Zoom F6 a few times and it's a good device which runs forever on NP-F's, though I'll totally agree on the fact that the ergonomics look streets ahead on the F4. A quick Google also made it obvious how the name makes it hard to look for as it returns a bunch of kit lenses with an f4 aperture!
-
Blue Room and SOS might have something?
On that note (apologies for taking the cue...!), I'm looking to get myself a drone (the above DJI Mini 3 Pro from @CYOA didn't get any further unfortunately, not sure he's been on the forum since?) and would love to know if any such forums/communities with reliable enough classified sections exist for aerial filming/photography?
Obviously Black Friday coming soon, too, but with the 3 Pro being discontinued in the UK and the 4 Pro being quite a bit more expensive while not offering much more I feel like going second hand might well be the way forward...

Lovely guitar and great to have an amp that can actually be played! I do take objection to the strat knobs, oh I really do, but different strokes hey! Would be black witch hats all the way for me...!
I've had an amp that went to 1/4w and loved it (hope @Dooks-Fatberg is loving it as much these days!) but the real game changer for me was getting a dummy load with a line out - been plying through my valve amps in my headphones ever since which I've loved, makes recording and playing along to music so so easy. That's a drum I'll bang to anyone who has a guitar and plays at home!
-
That's the kind of realisation I'd expect one to make after a muffin-based breakfast in Amsterdam rather than during a routine visit to the bog 😂
Also thanks both for the feedback, I found the results encouraging with so little effort. Just treated myself to a Black Friday reverb plugin (Relab LX480) and having a play with it, sounds great on the guitar and definitely better than the plate IR I have on that clip 👍

Totally relate with the songwriting struggles. I've been noting down a few song ideas (music, not words) I like recently, but am neither a singer nor a lyricist.
I can't be arsed looking for people who'll fit in, managing time, bouncing ideas back and forth, but still want to enjoy that feeling of having done something so it's been slowly simmering for a while that I want to do a little EP for myself, just to show myself I can
I will most likely never release it, but I'm keen to embrace enjoying the process with neither pressure nor expectation. I really hope I can get round to doing it, but I will need to strike a balance between not putting (time) pressure on myself and still having enough of a deadline to get shit done, while juggling work, a return to cycling and a baby. We'll see!
In other news, thanks all for pushing me towards monel strings for my acoustic, really been enjoying the tone and, having gone down to light gauge, been enjoying the ease of playing on them. A little truss rod adjustment went a long way to making it really enjoyable to play!
Figured it'd be a good time to experiment a bit with recording and putting one of my ribbon mics to use - the ribbon is very noisy and the playing is pretty shoddy but I'm pleased with the sound considering I hardly did any further experimenting with mic positioning and post production: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jEYdzBBJQzpsifyWSTlMJdPjBhJoVPu9/view?usp=sharing
Had an AC4TV for years and absolutely loved it, fairly voxy but with a strong bratty tweed character to my ears. I ended up adding the AC4C1 to the collection as was curious to compare an the C1 ended up being the one that stayed as ultimately it suited what I wanted better (ie a cleanish/slight breakup chimey base to place pedals in front of). @Dooks-Fatberg is now the proud owner of the TV and I do miss it for those fuzzy OD tones but couldn't justify keeping both!
I do also have an AC30/6 that needs some attention from an amp doctor and since getting a Torpedo Captor I keep telling myself I really need to get it sorted out as I can finally enjoy it in the comfort of my home!
