I think you have hit the nail on the head. I love my old bike and dont want to give up on it but I doubt its up to the rigours now but would benefit from some upgrades. New bike would be for actual mountain biking but has to be governed by the upper limit of the bike to work scheme budget. From what I've seen, theres some decent bikes for that amount (£1k max I believe)

Question.
Do I take advantage of the bike to work scheme and buy myself a decent brand new mountain/ trail bike. Something like a hardtail 29er or 27.5er?
Or

Do I invest in some cash in my 20+ yr old steel hard tail 26er?

I havent ridden a mountan bike in anger for a very long time so I imagine that a new bike would be a revelation.
Any thoughts always appreciated. Just thought it would start a conversation. If this is posted in the wrong place apologies.

No your absolutley right. I personally think its way over priced. But interested to be proven wrong!
As for Lance, at the time he was an absolute machine, unfortunately , didn't realise just how much. There's a film about it called 'The Program'. Appreciate its only a film but showed me, if true, just how ceazy it was. And if am being honest, makes me a little suspicious of all top level riders even these days. But thats just and it is only a film but certainly takes some gloss off it.
Despite this the bike is still iconic .

Arent any collectors item, bikes or otherwise, not worth the individual sum of parts?
As for the tribute thats debatsble. I have this frame and have slways wanted one. Indeed, I was a Lance fanboy until he was outed but the bike is still the bike and still iconic in its own way.

I was shocked to see the price of it! As far as I am aware its a good build but not entirely period correct. Even if it was that does seem high

Hi. Just had this company brought to my attention and just wondered if anyo e had any experience of them?
They seem to do 2 x 11 and 2 x 12 carbon groups. But very cheap when compared with Shimano et al.
Opinions?
