Thanks so much, that's what I expected/feared. The handrails on the wall side can be unscrewed but the central piece is going to have to be done in situ, so I guess stripping will make most sense then and be less fiddly? With appropriate ventilation...

This is an astonishingly basic question by the standard of this thread, but what's the consensus on repainting this ironwork to a new colour—does it need sanding/roughing up and re-priming to give bright green a fighting chance?

Afraid not, but I had the same concerns as you and I wasn't that fussed about trying it out.

Yes—used for c.12 months, I really like it: I've got one that can go tall enough to work with standing desk, and it always feels stable and supportive. The range of motion/position it supports is also nice.

I did go to sit on one at the shop on Wigmore Street to check how it felt.

What sort of price are you looking for?

I'm imagining so, but it feels like a truly Victorian quirk that these two don't have identical roofing. I can't find any record of permission for changing next door so maybe they've always been mismatched.
