Sat next to a guy on a flight to NYC once who just acted like David Puddy from Seinfeld the entire time. Stared straight ahead, didn't read, didn't watch anything, didn't get up to use the toilet, refused to accept his prepaid meal for some reason. I should have checked to see if he had an 8-Ball jacket.

All coffee processes use fermentation at some stage I think, but certain e.g. natural or black honey ones really want to encourage the type of flavours you'd associate with fermentation, like those boozy, overripe stone fruit-y anaerobic naturals. Washed coffee still has a fermentation period to break down the mucilage though.
The yeast process seems to involve taking more control of which yeast is present during fermentation, rather than I guess wild yeasts, and having specific flavours come from that. -
Last year we went to Sicily at the end of September and the weather was perfect (for me). This year my wife booked it in mid-August and I'm genuinely worried about my health, while she thinks the hotter the better.
A couple of months ago we bought one of those air coolers that draws up cool water into a mesh and blows air through it for our oven-like attic flat. It's reasonably effective right now but I think it's going to struggle if we get towards 40°C again. -
Having some wisdom tooth troubles as my last remaining one got an infection and made me extremely unwell last week. I saw the emergency dentist because my usual one cancelled my original appointment and got some antibiotics, and went to see the usual one yesterday.
I previously used to go to a surgery near my old job who had looked at my wisdom teeth before and took one out, but declined to touch this remaining one after checking a CT because it was too close to the nerve and said I would have to have it done under general at the Eastman if it caused problems. My current dentist is like 'oh no we have a specialist' and want to potentially do it themselves and charge me god knows how much, and mentioned just cutting out half the tooth. Fuck that. They did another CT and their specialist is going to call me next week to discuss pricing. Is it worth going back to the old place since I still seem to be on their books (they messaged me the other day saying I'm overdue for a check) and having them do a hospital referral since they already said they weren't confident it could be done at their surgery? -
Yeah the criminal case about classified documents, but he has a crooked Republican judge that he nominated on that one who is trying to drag it out as much as possible. Fortunately she doesn't seem very good at it because she's one of several extremely young judges with very little experience that Trump plopped in there with the help of some right wing think tank.

Preachers on public transport. If you want to stand in the street yelling this shit knock yourself out (though I feel for people working in businesses nearby) but don't get on a carriage in rush hour and start with that. I swear the guy this morning was throwing in a humble brag too by going on about how many women he'd slept with before finding Jesus.

Finally decided to order an upgrade for my crappy fan and got one of those air coolers you fill with ice water. Seems awfully likely the Yodel driver has decided to steal it cos he suddenly marked it as delivered while their driver tracker showed him in Edmonton miles from my flat. Naturally there's no easy way to flag this on Yodel's site or in the app, so I've had to message the company who sold it. I was already resigned to not actually getting it today cos I could see he had loads of stops left and had blown past the delivery window, but that is taking the piss.
Edit: this got dropped in on Sunday morning so I guess maybe the driver just wanted to keep up his 'delivery' numbers with Yodel and not be penalised, which is pretty sad. -
I'm just finishing off a bag of the Rwanda Rwamatamu Lot 4 which has some nice acidity to it. I also have the natural Honduras they have on right now which has the winey fermented natural taste quite prominently, if you like that. Recently they've had more dark chocolate/nutty Brazilian options than usual I think, but having bought from them for quite a while their range will change completely fairly frequently.

When my dad was living in a care home they would give him the absolute worst instant coffee and other methods like his usual cafetiere weren't an option, so I bought him a few pricier instant options he could keep in his room for them to make. Can't remember everything I got but he rated Little's Ethiopian the highest and also liked their Colombian.

Increasingly pushy chuggers. I was waiting to pick up my wife at the station yesterday and made sure to put on my sunglasses and headphones because I saw a bunch of them milling around, and propped myself in what I thought was an out of sight corner. Nope, one comes over and starts giving me his spiel, to which I politely say I'm not interested thanks. He says something else which I can't hear properly, and then makes a gesture for me to take off my headphones. I do, feeling pretty exasperated, and say 'what's up?' Then he keeps asking if I'm OK and acting concerned for my wellbeing, which I can only assume was some kind of attempt at engagement, before telling me he won't leave unless I give him a smile. I pull back my lips in a demented Terminator-style thing and he eventually fucks off. I don't think I could have made myself less approachable without wearing a literal mask and this guy still decided to stomp all over the social contract.

Hasbean now fully swallowed by Ozone and won't be using the Hasbean name any more. I haven't used them for quite a while and have switched to James Gourmet and Dark Arts for the majority of my beans, but they definitely helped broaden my coffee palate a lot (I think their Nicaraguan naturals were the first time I'd tried really funky winey coffee and I was instantly in love).

Anyone know if LoFi Coffee in Crouch End has closed down? I normally go there without fail for a coffee and snack after the gym at the weekend, but hadn't been for a few weeks cos I got hurt at judo and then got Covid. Today I walked up there and it was closed, plus the espresso machine wasn't there and the counter space was very empty. Shame if they're gone cos I rated them the best coffee in the area; they always used Dark Arts beans and obviously knew what they were doing.
Edit: saw Sunday night that they announced on social media they're closing. Shame! There are other places nearby like Beam but I think they concentrate more on their food than the coffee.

I got a pack of the Hasbean drip bags to take on holiday last week and found them a bit of a pain. The coffee was not awful but you have to pour through such tiny amounts of water at a time that it takes way longer than I'd like, and they advise adding only up to 200ml of water after a bloom so it's quite a small cup. Also the last bit tends to not drain through properly as the base of the bag is invariably touching your drink, so you have to hold it by the tabs and wait with it hovering above your mug.

The Conspirituality podcast is also really good for examining the link between fitness/wellness influencers, yoga teachers etc. and harmful conspiracy theories. I think it's a significant echo chamber effect sometimes and the people in those social groups tend to be easy prey for anyone looking to manipulate them. There's a high incidence of PTs and yoga teachers getting caught in MLM scams and losing money shilling Herbalife or something I believe (just from my own observation as an outsider married to a yoga teacher).

Slamming my head off an early boss in Blasphemous 2 right now. I should say bosses because it turns out to be a duo boss battle, with one filling the screen with pillars of fire and the other launching tiny stunlocking projectiles (that are hard to see through the aforementioned fire pillars). I can't really remember a duo boss fight I actually enjoyed, although in the first Blasphemous there's a trio fight that I didn't find too bad.

Every time I did this at first and used a conversion chart though I ended up with a shoe that was too small and had to return them though. I assume now that you should add at least 1 cm for room in front of your toes (maybe I prefer more room than is necessary but I want at least a thumb's width, I hate my toes being stubbed or pinched) but you'd think it would be factored into the size conversion anyway.
Nope. He diagnosed himself.
