Black guards look worse than I remember, £10 for those. The bullmoose bars are on a bike ATM but they’re practically new, no scratches, less than 50km on em.

Ergo bars in 2021 is HH I feel like.

Black fork looking good. Can relate to that fixed gear offroad feeling, it's like the sluggishness of the heavier frame and big rubber is minimized and you're left feeling like you could ride just about anywhere for as long as you want to.

There is a lot of conversation in this thread centered around how boring and trendy bikes are, you see it in the HH threads too. I've been thinking about the kind of monoculture that has been steadily taking over since the mid 2000's (people in Columbus Ohio, London, Cambridge, Pittsburgh and Chicago dress similarly, go to the same kinds of cafes, listen to the same kinds of music, etc.) and it strikes me that even if culture has kind of smoothed out and stagnated in the last 15 odd years, bikes definitely have not. Dangle mugs are already passé! My Longitude is utterly of its time being a bike packing bike with 135mm QR forkends and straight 1 1/8" headtube and it's only 5 years old! Not saying that it's a good or bad thing (these changes do tend to be marketing driven after all) but cycling is pretty dynamic.

Great job on this thing, looks like pure fun to ride!

That song in particular had been haunting me for so long. No Other and Strength of Strings are so good, they feel like songs that have always existed and just happen to bubble up into our consciousness now and again.

The dorohedoro anime was kind of a letdown for me after reading the manga but I feel like I’m in the minority and that’s fine. I think the tone of the manga is so unique and not well suited to animation that I was bound to be disappointed, but I’m happy that more people are aware of it at all so I can’t complain too much.

It’s great fun and I definitely never think about 12 speed :)

Last book I finished was Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. I read the english translation that Lem himself apparently didn't approve of but I can't read Polish so I had to make do. I loved it in spite of the utilitarian translation, one of my favorite sci fi novels now. It uses a sci fi setting to grapple with humanity's general desire to blindly push forward and establish new edens for ourselves, to terraform everything in the universe to conform to our desires. When we are confronted individually with our raw underlying desires (represented by freaky homunculi conjured up by a living psychic ocean), the ones that drive us that we don't want to understand, it's mortifying.
The book occupies the space between Star Trek and Alien, which is a clunky way to describe it but those are points of reference most of us can relate to.

Which Toni Morrison did you read? I tend to agree with your description, but I've only read two of her novels (Bluest Eye, God Help the Girl). Bluest Eye rocked me completely but God Help the Girl left me a little cold even though the prose was excellent.
