I bought mine brand new about 1964 at Dawson's of Burnley. It was absolute rubbish and one needed to be a full time mechanic to keep it running. Aluminium spools on steel spindles kept coming loose because of differential expansion, a dodgy microphone with lots of hum and tape heads with lots of wear on them. When I took it back to the shop to say there was too much wow they said it sounded alright to them. Bye-bye Dawson's.
The Magnavox represented a sizable investment in 1964 for the wages in those days. One ought to have been able to look back on something worthwhile for the money. However that was not the case: it could be summed up as a good looking pile of rubbish.
