But as you, when they came: although they were true, the spokes didn't feel tight enough. Put this down to me not knowing anything about wheel-building. Rode them about 300 miles and found the brake tracks to rub on the pads (rim brakes) front and rear on efforts. Then a hand full of spoke totally unwound in the rear wheel and one in the front snapped.

To be fair - Zed got back to me quickly and even offered to send me some loaner wheels, However by that time, I'd lost all confidence (in Zed) and bought a spoke tension gauge, followed a youtube tutorial and trued and tensioned the wheels myself. 5000 miles later, they're still bang on, no flex, no unwinding/snapped spokes.

Looks like the same problem to me... massively under-tensioned and no QA department. When I asked what tension they should be... he wouldn't disclose, saying it was better that I sent them back.

You get a bump making me laugh with 'the bad:' (plus this is a great project for someone:).

Shimano Rs81 hubs and spokes in decent condition, wore the braking surface out on the rims. Disassembled and 50 quid if they are any use to anyone. Photos to follow.

Looking for an affordable S/H medium/large XC MTB for my eldest who, inconsiderately, keeps growing out of his bikes and riding mine. An under-used 26er would be ideal.

Yes, missing a headset bearing and one stuck bottle cage bolt but in good condition otherwise.

2012 experience 59 (XL) 6'1" plus, Richey headset, Shimano BB fitted is seized at present, can remove.

Issues: gear hanger needs replacing. Rear dropouts are really worn from 20,000 miles of pothole commutes. The biggest potential issue is when removing the crown race I knicked the headtube with a chisel. I've ridden it since (I am an idiot) but wouldn't recommend using them again.

Anyway £20 or a box of gels, collected from Tring, Herts.
