The CTC/Cycling UK forums' IGH guru 'Brucey' used to swear by running the Shimano hubs in a semi-fluid grease rather than oil. This was the IGH megathread, but I'm pretty sure a search will bring up Alfine-specific ones as well: https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?t=93935

Started a new job recently, which is mostly remote, and have been told I have £500 to spend on home office kit as I wish. I already have an ok desk and a 24" monitor, so I guess priorities are decent office chair, laptop docking station, second monitor (24" is fine), and (if budget permits) a better keyboard. What are the best options within my budget? It looks like second-hand USB-C Dell docking stations are £60-ish on eBay, and unless there are better suggestions was going to go with an IKEA office chair, which probably leaves ~£250 for monitor and keyboard?

For the non-miniatures/comsim wargamers, I watched an interesting seminar yesterday with Nick Bradbeer of UCL, talking about how they use wargames to teach naval architecture students about the tradeoffs in ship design. A lot of interesting discussion about how to make it engaging, and about the 8 types of fun (which I'd not previously encountered). It's now up on YouTube; the rest of the channel should also be of interest to fellow nerds: https://youtu.be/cP6HzLB0DZI

I usually drill a couple of holes and use pop rivets to fix the flap; you just need to make sure the rivet heads are large enough.
Also, would it be possible to fashion something to give the chainset/BB area more coverage on the driveside?
Beyond a scobleflap? I guess you might be able to use milk carton HDPE or something to extend the guard round?

Do the French fuzz actually check your vests for an EN label, or just eyeball it and go 'yeah, that looks hi-viz'? (AIUI on PBP the organisers do check beforehand at the bike scrutineering.) An interesting set of requirements for the EN; is the seam strength test for the garment itself, or to make sure that the reflectives can't come loose too easily?

Vitsoe use a different fixing system, so it won't fit twin-track rails. Elfa do reinforced brackets that are 57cm deep, so you could probably get some ply or whatever cut and use those? As long as you're not putting ridiculous weight on the desk you could probably make it a bit deeper. https://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/product/elfa-twin-slot-shelving-system-reinforced-shelf-bracket-570mm-length-white-453472

and knowing Mike pretty well I had a chat with him, and he told me his latest project had just come out of the oven and was looking promising, would I like one?

As name-drops go, and coupled with the 'oh, I just had this kicking around the garage for a while', this is astounding. Plus those monoblade forks!

Not exactly dandy, but William Lennon do safety boots, and will IIRC let you spec colour/leather if you want; their MTO time is usually a couple of months though. https://williamlennon.co.uk/product-category/safety-footwear/
