Yes, the weight is high by it works better on off road stuff where vegetation and rocks can catch on lowrider mounted panniers.
I think it's way better than the Blackburn outpost, it has a much bigger top platform. Also, the Blackburn is ridiculously wide, so the panniers stick out and makes the steering even heavier! -
Do you ride off-road?<
Yes, most of the time, on gravel and dirt roads around Oslo. Your soil types may vary.
I don't have any carbon bikes, so I can't comment on whether there might be issues on that front! My steel genesis was already a bit scuffed from velcro straps but the Tailfin certainly hasn't made it any worse.I like the look of the apidura zip one, because it has a cable port <
The tailfins have that too, it's a nice feature.

No, the V shaped mounts and the straps are both rubber/tpu so they don't mark the surfaces they're on. Can't say the same about the normal velcro type!
I guess it could happen if you were riding somewhere with really abrasive gritty dirt that might get underneath, but the fact that the bags don't move around at all makes me think it's unlikely. -
I've owned the zippered gastank for a while and earlier this year bought the biggest flip top Tailfin one. Much as I like my Revelate gear, there's no competition - the Tailfin is absolutely rock solid without anything round the steerer due to the V-mounts on the underside. Welded seams so it's completely rainproof and the magnetic catch means it's super easy to get stuff in and out one-handed, while riding along. I also have one of their downtube bags for spares, same mounting system and it's great.
I've lent the Gastank to a friend but I won't be asking for it back anytime soon! -

If you're going to (or near) Aviemore then https://backcountry.scot/product-category/brands/voile-straps/ should have them!

I've had the smaller rando bag for a while now and to be honest, I wouldn't recommend it. The shape and accessibility is nice, but the attachment system with the magnets isn't secure and it rattles about when riding. I've had it bounce of the mounts a couple of times which has felt pretty unsafe. I'm thinking of modifying and attaching mine via velcro straps to make it quieter and less annoying.
I've used it on both a pizza rack and a BLB mini front rack if that helps.
It's not like they are cheap either so I would look at something like Swift or Wizardworks instead if you have the funds! -

Very timely article here: https://bikepacking.com/plan/waxed-canvas-bags-guide/

Looks like an ideal option as the top strut clamps around the seat post? Easy to remove when not needed too! -

Maybe a DIY version of the Porcelain Rocket Panniers? It should be fairly easy to make up some sort of sleeve that is attached to the rack and then the briefcase slides into it. Otherwise a porteur/Pizza rack witht the case lashed to the platform, but that will depend on your bike setup...

You could also soak it in a bucket, using baby bottle cleaner or a light bleach solution. Just make sure it's fully dry before you wax it.
