Hey @swmlon - dibs on stem pending some pictures!

Hmmm - I can see why that would shape your perception! I suppose the trouble is that it's one of those assumed universals that actually turns out to differ wildly depending on who you talk to and where you are. We're too used to the idea that you might happen to get into a yelling match with someone that you're near - can you imagine if it happened on foot with such regularity?!
In any case, speaking as someone who drives occasionally and rides a bike regularly, you've just got to take a deep breath and try to avoid falling into the trap of thinking of it as permissible I suppose...

I suppose in the same way that the term 'accident' became commonplace for crashes / incidents involving cars, since it absolves a lot of the need to imply responsibility to an individual for what's gone on.
If I recall, there's a growing trend to stop being using 'accident' and instead use 'incident' (I think). It makes it sound a lot less like crashing into one another is somehow a given...

Probably consist of them being very condescending and having to listen to a load of stuff about how cyclists are irresponsible - if you don't want to pay the ticket, just swallow your pride and sweetly smile your way through.
Might be worth getting in touch with TFL if the signage is inadequate, perhaps even grounds to dispute the ticket? Although, that's sheer speculation on my part...
EDIT Took a look at the 'road show': https://www.cityoflondon.police.uk/news-and-appeals/Pages/Exchanging-Places-road-show.aspx
You get to sit in a lorry cab and learn about how badly designed they are. So, you know, all good that we get to learn about that and nobody tries to legislate for improved HGV design...

Sorry - that was way too presumptuous on my part! I suppose I was inadvertently referencing the times that I've blown kisses (never get a number from the drivers though, need to up my game, thinking of getting some eyebrow raising in there)
For sure, I think the trick can sometimes be to just be disarming as possible.

I've been meaning to contribute to this one for a while - but today just really irked me and I needed to yell into the void.
On commute home, almost got hit off by a motorbike taking a small gap between a group of cyclists and a car to our right. Pretty normal shit, so I ask him to take more space and get the usual about how I shouldn't be out of the bus lane (going round a stopped bus).
Thing that threw me was a guy on a Boardman who decided that he'd get involved with berating me for being on the road. M'bike almost takes both of us out with some stupid crap and another bicycle pulls that - really knocked my day.

Hey just took a look - scratch is a bit bigger than I'd go for, but thanks for uploading the pictures!
