Spent a week in Talloires near Annecy learning to fly these things - it’s great fun. I was also able fit a nice hike over the weekend to get on top of Pointe de Talamarche (16km, 1000m of elevation in one big afternoon which left me nicely sore).

Yeah bikes on TGVs are a pain in the butt (not all trains have spaces and it’s hard to find which ones, plus an additional fee to pay) but it’s getting better on the availability side.

They’re adorable (can’t decide whether the orange is the best or not) but the not-full moon used in the moon phase indicator would bug me forever.

Interesting, then that makes them jobsworths for not putting normal bike hooks that you and I can use ourselves in their trains. Having to drop the bike the day before or earlier / wait for it to be processed afterwards was always such a pain in the butt. (And the people at the Paris end of operations were jobsworths indeed - at least in London they were helpful & polite)

Yes but you’ll need to bag it iirc. IKEA has a bag that’s roughly folded Brompton sized, I don’t know the exact ref as I made mine :-)

I didn’t know that phenomenon, interesting. Though I’m not sure that’s what was happening here, the wind was steadily blowing in the same direction as the valley. It was just very warm. I didn’t use gloves at all over the three days.

Fun three days of hiking (not much snow to be found) in the Vercors and the first sunrise of 2023. Also nice to see the other side of the ridge after hiking through the Hauts Plateaux lying West of it last summer, awesome either way.

Hello! I am wondering about v-brakes. I know very little about them and my mum has been complaining about the brakes on her hybrid. Basically the brake pivot is super stiff, so they don’t spring back away from the rim and rub on one side or the other. Upon inspection the pivot is a plastic thing (rather than the v-brake stud, which baffled me) and I can’t get it to not be stiff regardless of how I try. So I thought a change of brakes might be in order.

• are there sub standards in v-brakes that I need to be aware of?
  
• what’s a good, durable, not too expensive set of v-brakes?
