@veLLo Lincoln Imp? Let me check my spares tomorrow - I might have a replacement.
-
That's one of the things I have to find replacement cables for. Both rear and front cable are bodged together. One family owned bike, left in a shed for 25 years after grandpa died. Until I came along, ha ha. Attached a picture as I found it.
One of a few next projects. Pre war Sun parts would be very useful, especially the pedals and brake parts. I have to say, I have so many frame and forks at the moments that I could probably use anything that is pre-1955ish.
The Sun Manxman had the strutted bracket - does your frame have that?
Would love to see some pictures, tia - Rogier -
Yep @user48602 , always interested in parts - but I also have a 1936 Sun Manx TT in the pipeline for refurbishment :) Depends a bit where you are at and from what era?
Cheers, Rogier

Thanks @jeff80
That was exactly the reason for the purchase - the original finish
Careful cleaning and trying to preserve :) bit smallish for me, but a long top tube - I will just see how we will get along. -
Not at the moment @jeff80 - if I ever would sell them, I will keep you in mind.
They are not bluemels by the way - I think they are Bailey's -
-
I feel like I am spamming this thread, ha ha.
Another of one of my bicycles I recently "finished".
1937 Raleigh Speed Sports Model 33, 3-speed, original finish, Lauterwasser style bars, 21" frame - sadly I felt it was too small for me at 21" - glad it found a good old chap (V-CC member) as new owner who can appreciate a pre-war Raleigh clubman machine :)The 'Speedwell' bicycle above found a new owner as well, a keen touring cyclist from Cambridge who needed a 1930s machine for one of Carlton Reid's Kickstarter rides (the lost cycleways from the 1930s).

Thanks @Ado1965 - I tried to remove as much rust as possible from the frame, simply with wire wool - and then used an oily rag. Not the most durable solution, linseed oil might have been better. But then again, you can just wipe it over with an oily rag like once a month and it will preserve it...
The front brake is a center pull Philco - like Resilions they clamp on the fork legs, and as I modified it to 27" wheels it was very useful to be able to slide them up high on the legs.
Brake performance is terrible, but it looked OK and period :) -
Cheers @BobbyBriggs @Jonny69 - quite happy myself with how it turned out as well ;) bit annoying I don't know who made it, but was still fun to build up...
Next project(s) waiting though :) -

I saw the chaps from VCC were riding London-Cambridge on April 23rd - looked like a nice ride, so I decided to grab a frame and forks from the garage and build it up to ride down South from Cambridge and join them at Hoddesdon. Also a good incentive to build up the 1946 Dawes that had been in the shed for more than a year. The build was a bit hasty, 3speed AW hub was geared a bit too high at some sections, but we made it and the old Dawes did well!
6am start, done 85miles, only tin can in the ride - bum is still aching from not being used to the Brooks B15 Champion Narrow! Very nice ride though and met some new people :)
-
My misunderstanding - cheers @Skülly - still a nice rear hub though :)
-
Would love to have second dibs on the set of Airlites @jeff80 - depending on price. I thought I would get a set of Airlites for a Bates build, but it turned out to be a Bayliss L/F rear and Racelite front... Not too bad, but not what I was hoping for.

Cheers @falconvitesse - no more donor bikes, that's what got me into the chaos in my shed and garden ;) but with prices on Fleabay it is always very tempting!
Nice Ulster Sports though - rarer than the Pathfinders. There is another Rudge in the pipeline - quite happy to get this one soon
-
Rust - Rudge
2 - 0Sometimes rust wins :(
Makes you wonder where the orange color comes from. Could it have had red tyres, or maybe an orange inner tube caused this...
Cut out the front hub to keep as example - axle incl cones and nuts, flip top oiler, wing nuts might go back on a replacement wheelPedal came off without too much trouble - if anyone knows a source for these, or other mid 30s rat traps - much appreciated!
-
@hanford I've used senditnow.com before and think they offer good value for money
For UK addresses, you can send parcels up to 1.5m in length and 3m length and girth combined - maximum weight 30kg - simply drop it off at your nearest post office - £11.35 incl VAT for 2 day service
-
No rear wheel @falconvitesse - front wheel beyond salvation & unfortunately handlebars bent :( Will try post regular updates during the process.
@SideshowBob @russmeyer good question, ha ha. Soak a bit first and strip down to a workable basis. Funny enough the frame doesn't seem too bad. I always like a 'patinated' look, so it will not be a respray and bling bling
-
First build thread :)
Been fixing/modifying old discarded bikes for the last 2 years - thought this might be a good incentive to get cracking on finishing up some projects...And share the love for pre-1960 machines
This machine popped up in January on Facebook: discovered in a basement in Wales - Free
The handlebar stem and bars struck me as mid 30s, Philco front centre pull - Oooh, I like that.
So I jumped on it - although it was like a 5 hour trip each way. YES, first dibs...The Ru(st)dgy adventure starts

I recently joined this Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/323334228047830/
The marque enthusiast from the Veteran Cycle Club is on that group as well, very knowledgeable chap. And keen to see as much Rensch/Paris machines as possible to complete the timeline of Harry Rensch's heritage. -
@Delamadera Second dibs on the Patrick shoes, depending on P and P to Cambridge UK...
And if @roadking goes ahead.Cheers and GLWS
-
@stedlocks It's still as acquired, too many other projects to finish first and clear some space...
Apparently it is an early one, but has been refurbished in the 1980s :( disguised it as a Claud Butler, added braze ons for shifter levers, bottle cage, hidden rear brake cable - lots to do! I'll probably leave it as is for now and take my time to source some decent period parts to bring it back to a more original condition in the future
Bit faded and worn - he can have it for postage costs @veLLo
