I have a small online shop selling parts for people doing up old school BMX bikes, a niche market!. I stopped shipping to Europe on jan 4th and am still dealing with the backlog of lost and delayed items now.
EU customers (Germany france Italy spain) made up about 15-20% of my sales. I’ve had many messages from my regular EU customers saying they will not shop from U.K. any more. Even though the stuff I sell isn’t available there, they would rather go without than buy from U.K. with fees on arrival! -

A manufacturer like brooks selling direct to consumer on their website has to maintain their retail price point (you could argue thsi is one reason that they bother to sell direct to consumer).
But market forces online mean that the wiggles, etc will fight it out for sales and their price will always be cheaper (with tiny margins).
Which means brooks probably don’t sell high volume through their website, in the U.K. at least.
So selle italia decide to send all the brooks.co.uk orders from Italy where they have a streamlined online centre to send out small orders accross their other brands.
It’s not cost effective for brooks.co.uk to have a separate and low volume online centre based in the U.K., especially when they probably ship most of the orders to consumers outside the U.K.. -
I think it’s the same as if you’re a non-VAT registered business.. ie you pay VAT when you buy your materials (which you cannot claim back), and then sell sell without charging any VAT. Unfortunately your EU customers will now pay duty and VAT (unless >60% of materials originated in the EU/UK).
You’ll also have to fill out a CN22 customs declaration and supply Detailed sales invoices with HS codes. If you do it a lot you’ll need an EORI number... -

Currently they only pay shipping (the uk VAT that i pay is included in the price.) & any duty I paid bringing the stuff in is already factored in when I set the retail price.
I think with this deal (and the ROO) my EU customers will now have to pay duty (4.7% on bike parts and 20% on complete bikes), plus domestic Sales tax (currently 20% in the U.K. & france, 19% in Germany etc). Plus approx £12 handling fee. Plus about a week delay to process.
Depends on the item, but on average the cost to my EU consumer goes up about 45%. (Standard order is about £50)

Saw this in the guardian live feed, from trumps defence team:
‘ The president’s legal team said in its brief, “Insufficient evidence exists upon which a reasonable jurist could conclude that the 45th President’s statements were accurate or not, and he therefore denies they were false.”’
Any logicians out there? Or someone who can come up with an example to show the flaw in this argument?
If you cannot conclude that a statement is accurate, then it is not false.
