tl;dr: Shoe recommendations for long runs on trails in the South West.
After 2 years living and running in the rugged coastal mountains of BC, Canada, I'm returning to live in the South West and am looking for shoe recommendations for local trails. I'd like something I can wear on muddy farm trails, woodland paths and routes like the SWCT, and something comfy for long runs (4-5hrs) is crucial. The shoes I wear here are definitely more geared towards gripping well on granite slab, and durability scrambling (Scarpa Ribelle*, Arcteryx Norvan). Hoka Torrents are a shoe I've enjoyed before, but they fell apart very quickly. I have wide-ish feet, and hated Altras.
Any help much appreciated!
- I love the Ribelle shoes, but had to warranty two pairs after they started coming apart where the upper/sole meet after <100km.

Recommendations for any trail events to sign up for next year from November onwards? Something around the 30-50km mark with plenty of vert.. Ran my first ultra on Sunday – Squamish 50km with 2200m vert – and came 9th female, so I'm keen to keep this fitness up and see how I do. Moving back to Bristol from Canada in November and excited to explore local hills again.

Recently moved to Squamish, BC (Canada) and have signed myself up for some ultras and skyraces in 2022... Now it's time to get myself some poles – does anyone have any recommendations? I've never run with them before, but they'll definitely come in useful for this in June https://meettheminotaur.com/minotaur/

Can anyone point me in the direction of some tried and tested strength training for legs/ankles (sprained my ankle a while ago and want to make sure they’re as strong as can be)? I’m definitely guilty of just running and rarely doing any strength training, which is maybe why my ankle rolled (according to the physio)… Anything with crossover for ski fitness would be great too!

Hey, @idealstandard and I will be in Toronto in a few weeks and would love to have bikes to get around the city while we're there. Anywhere we can rent them for a good chunk of time? We'll be in the city for about 6 weeks seeing family before heading west to seek our fortunes.. Thanks

Rode some of the Bikepacking.com Westcountry Way route yesterday (from Chagford to Princetown). It was a ride of two halves – one in glorious sunshine on gravel tracks up and over the moors, and the second half riding in heavy rain and an icy fog with minimal layers, no gloves and a slow puncture..
It's a cracking route and I'd love to do the whole thing, bivvying along the way. We found a map, compass and case submerged in a bog, and the route drawn on it was this very route... I hope whoever was riding it had a backup way of navigating.https://bikepacking.com/routes/westcountry-way/

Planning a weekend tour over Dartmoor with a friend next weekend. We'll be setting off from Plymouth on Friday late afternoon to bivvy somewhere around Princetown on Friday eve, do a day's riding on Saturday (camp spot to be found), and need to be in Exeter by Sunday late afternoon so she can get the train back to London.
Any particular routes, trails, swimspots, views etc we should route ourselves via? We'll be riding gravel bikes, but she's new to touring and has only ever done road rides, so I don't want to route us on anything too technical.

Mum needs a new bike as she dislikes riding with drops on the Genesis road bike I bought her years ago, and wants something a bit more robust with an upright position, a bit more tyre clearance, and capacity for racks...
- 50-52cm frame
- Flat bars / thumb shifters
- Good range of gears
- Rack mounts
- Complete build, preferably
Budget is £500, and I'm in Bristol, she's in Nottingham, but I can also potentially collect in London...

If anyone's interested, I have a pair of Scarpa shoes in size 6 (39) that need a new home. Bought last year for a back-up pair on a climbing trip that never happened, but I have too many pairs and these have gone unused... Still lots of life left in the toes. Looking for £40 - collection in Bristol or can post.

If of interest to anyone, I've got a nearly new* pair of Saucony Peregrine 10 (2020 model) in size 5.5 / 38.5 to sell on behalf of my mum. She bought them last month for £115 and was hoping to get £75 for them.. Collection in Bristol or can post for free.
- Worn for one 5k before realising they are too tight

Hi, looking to book a ski trip accessible via train in Feb with my mum and options are limited.. It seems to be accom that is most expensive, so I was thinking of finding somewhere we can stay in a non-resort town and get a bus/train to the lifts (she might not want to ski every day either). Somewhere like Bourg-saint-maurice and the funicular up to Les Arc.. Any other recommendations for somewhere we can stay affordably, but then travel to the resort on days we want to ski? Thanks
