I was properly into the shoegaze thing at the time and was in the right place for it...Oxford late eighties early nineties. MBV were a huge influence on all those bands but were miles ahead. Ride got dull after the first three EPs, Chapterhouse had one song, Slowdive were hugely pompous but I was amazed when mogwai an going an identical thing arrived to great acclaim. Me I had a soft spot for the House of Love....tunes lyrics and loud as hell, the telescopes were violent then went jazzy then disappeared, the pale saints were great till Ian masters left and the Boo Radleys really took the britpop dollar. All of those bands sound similar but different to MBV.
Now who does shoegaze now? Fucking Coldplay -

Not entirely convinced by this...I thought the point of the Mr Pink is that it's a pretty niche colour and has a steel fork. Now it's got a carbon fork and a more mainstream colour scheme.
I expect it's fun to ride and they will probably sell morethan the old models, but it's not really a Mr Pink. I know they did a non-pink pink too, but this new model seems pretty safe. There is nothing really Steve Buscemi about the new model -
Back to Morris Dancers, I'd heard from that "Morris" was a corruption of Moorish, meaning from the Moors in North Africa.
At a time when dancing to rhythmic music was frowned upon by the church cos it created sass and frivolity. The dancers would black up so they could deny it was any of the local god fearing white people and blame it on some itinerant Africans with a fetish for hankies bells and tankards. A lot of troupes dropped the paint a long time back and others have switched to blue paint.
I think it's pretty sketchy to black up regardless of the original intention, it's bad but never as bad s David Baddiel blacking up for his oh so hilarious Jason Lee impression. -

The standout aspect of bjj is the way it's trained. It seems to be trained at a higher intensity than a lot of other martial arts. I did a pretty all encompassing Chinese system for a few years and there was nothing that I saw in bjj that wasn't in the kungfu...its just the grappling and ground fighting was emphasised and taken a few steps further than in what I was doing. We did kind of ma exchange and one on one the bjj is very effective.
I would like to add that I am not "hard" at all, was rubbish at martial arts and you could all totally kick my head in. -

I would add that I thought I was buying a bicycle not an ornament. The charge plug2 that I used for the same journey the year before still has the original BB & headset working fine. So in comparison to a bike at a quarter of the price I have been very lucky or unlucky depending on your point of view

The type of riding? Mostly Road wet dry mud track mulch a lot of leaf mulch all weathers for the commute and then standard issue club rides in the West Country. So yeah as I have discovered component shagging conditions
The stock wheels are crap and the tyres were great for dry gravel towpaths (fancy that) but not much else. The saddle not for me.
But I still like it. A bike that tries to do everything is always gonna be a compromise but I've ridden very challenging rocky MTB terrain no problemand not been humiliated to badly in a hill climb event against people with the right kit
It can take mudguards & racks even on the carbon fork, yeah all in all useful as a packhorse.

Been riding a CDA since April
It's comfy but not great
Needed to replace the rear mech after about 3000km as well as headset and BB.
I chose to improve the wheels with Kenesis Crosslights and Bontranger AW1 which got it down to about 10kg. Put a fabric scoop saddle on it as well. The ersatz "1x" gearing doesn't give enough coverage on descents so you will be spinning out. Mine is prone to throw the chain on long fast downhills too
The single ring gearing sort of works but after riding for a couple of hours you will lose the full range of the cassette.
It's my first proper bike in 20 years so admittedly I am a bit clueless, but I was surprised that the Genesis warranty didn't cover any of the parts that broke BB - Headset (ok I now know that nobody covers those) and rear mech (Genesis pointed me to the shop or SRAM) . In the mind of the company that built it, this is not a bike for serious use even as a commuter. My usage was regarded as "excessive".
All in all its my bike I like it, I have invested time and money into it but I wouldn't buy another

Really looking forward to having to install a software patch at 3am because the house lights keep turning on and off.
