When I’ve had shin splints I’ve just switched 100% to bike. You can train and let them heal

Bath Hilly Half today. Not sure where I placed, would be happy with 50th

I went our way too fast and did the exciting single track descent with the lead pack. Then I had a word with myself. I’m in my 50s I’m not a superhero. So I chilled out and spent the next hour and a half getting overtaken.

It’s my third fastest time but only a couple of minutes slower than my previous run 6 years ago.

So yeah 1:55 with 500+m of elevation is still ok.

Also absolutely spanked my kids’ teacher who is regarded as the Healthy Fit Dreamboat.

On the downside experienced brutal post-race stomach cramps and violent liquid shit. Never had that before.

Allegedly the first instalment of a spy trilogy
Starts a little flat, picks up and kind of reverts to his earlier flawed protagonists. There are rumblings of a really interesting spymaster character (neither a smiley nor a lamb).

Yep this is pretty much it.

I’m pretty tight with my money but sometimes you gotta get the right thing and it costs…for me those things aren’t generally what other people spaff their money on, neither are they generally as expensive

Arranged to meet with a friend to go over some songs for a gig in December
Work out a set.

Initially his suggestion is that we go on a weekend long bender.
Considering I have family commitments and responsibilities, I suggest a weekday thing
I book a day off work. We’ll rattle through the songs in the morning , get a pub lunch and then put him on a train home in the afternoon/evening.

His train got in at 10am at 10:15 I get a WhatsApp pic of a “cheeky pit stop pint” 3 miles past my house from the station.

Managed another very hilly 17km without huge pain during or afterwards. Range of motion not brilliant, but still good.

Saw Nick Cave last night.

Not sure how I ended up going. I’m not a fan…in the sense that I’m aware of his work but haven’t really sat down with it. So I thought why not? Why not go in pretty much cold to see an artist who is supposed to be hot shit?

OK definitely hot shit. Presence, charisma a voice, the bad seeds, the band - that band!
The rythmns and tones the breakdowns and the crescendos.

But he doesn’t like a song that resolves itself does he? It’s about the narrative arc I guess.
That’s the bit I find hard to hang onto, I’m traditional in that sense it’s all unfinished to me. Polished and crafted and real but open ended. I get that’s the point, like I get a joke that doesn’t quite tickle me to belly laugh.

So yeah was good, probably won’t listen to his music again on purpose though

We live on a street with student HMOs
At one point they could all park on the street 5-6 students 5-6 cars per house

3-4 of those cars would be parked for the whole term. One stupid bastard had a hearse.

We now have a resident parking scheme 1 (+1) per house

Rehab exercises I’m sure are working but not quickly enough, so I piled in with vast amounts of turmeric in my diet with glucosamine (for a placebo effect). I’ve gone from feeling like my pelvis is about to fall out after running, to just severely stiff legs and adductors.

I like it, I like the font
But it’s a road bike really
