The top pull works with sram and its great. Avoid the bottom pull for the life of you and ditch the mudchather aka that wheel.
My experience with Ralph is also positive, but I think the Ralph's are a bit overkill for the summer months. Maybe consider getting a filethread tire so you can gravelgrind and explore during the summer, and then get the Ralph's when it gets wet. -

I picked up this frame at a local bike jumble because I couldn't resist and because I needed a fun project that I could finish without spending loads of cash, it came with a campa headset and BB that I'm pretty certain won't be on the finished build..
The frame is in god condition given its age (I have no idea how old it is but I'm thinking 2K'ish) but have some paint chips here and there. Nothing that bothers me.
This will be a 9s 53x12/28 DT shifter setup for maximum slaveness, and the parts I have are:
- Open pro wheelset
- Spotter cockpit
- SLR and random seatpost that have been cut down to fit
- Black 105 derailleur
- chain, cables etc.
I need to find some brake levers, brakes, dt shifters and a chainset.
The chainset has to be something vulgar, so DA 7900, 5800 or similar with a big chainring, but they still carry a pricetag, so we'll see where it ends. Here's a quick mock-up to give an idea of the geometry
I'll keep this thread updated as the build progresses. Inputs and comments are welcome as long as they dont tell me to go period correct.

...Of how not to do it.
All modern groups look good on old frames
