Ha! So my changing requirements have made it nigh on impossible to find an automatic Bauhaus type watch at ~£300. Found a Botto Tres auto for just a little beyond budget- no idea if any good though. I'm Now looking at a Tissot Visodate or simple pilot style watch like a Steinhart...

Not sure I need another money pit in my life....

Narrowed down requirements a little: Would rather have an automatic over quartz. Sapphire Glass and a level of water resistance is also good. This will be worn often so will needs to be scrath ressistant and may well end up in the shower / a full sink when I inevitably forget I'm wearing it

Cheers- also very nice. I'm starting to understand how getting into watches can become an expensive hobby- way too many choices to choose just one

Some advice please- I'd like to buy a watch. Budget of around £300. Quite like minimal/ simple designs like the Mondaines. Not keen on anything dinner plate sized. Looking for something well made that offers bang for buck and will last. Any suggestions?

Yeah, that was my initial thought. Largest range for a campag cassette seems to be 12-29. Bit of limitation of using Campag

Thanks for the replies. @edscoble I'll be riding plenty of hills, maybe a 39t ring will be required. Ive minimal experience of off road riding, so am unsure of the range that'll suit me yet

Question. I have a 42t ring upfront and a maximum sprocket size of 29t at the back. I assume I need a medium cage derailleur as per Campag specs, but would only have a 42t ring change this?

... as they are so nice I'm going to stick with an all campag drive train. Was also talked out of the Shiftmate solution by my LBS- Keep pedalling in Manchester.

Drivetrain will be a veloce/ centaur mix. BBG bashguard and dog fang to keep the chain on. Dia Compe bar end friction shifter for gears .

Just have to decide between BB7 and Spyres for brakes.The decision will probably come down to price- where can I get Spyres cheap(ish)?

My setup would be campag cassette, shinano/ SRAM everything else. Jtek suggest the model 1 will suit this, but I'd like some field reports before buying

what set up do you use btw?

Just looked- yes,£30 is steep for such a simple bit of kit. still tempted by it though

yep- Campag parts do seem a bit of a money pit. It'd be a bit cheaper initially, but not right in the long run. Maybe i'll use the shiftmate as a stopgap while waiting for some nice shimano wheels
