Thanks for all the replies. It seems that the French style braze on tab was used for a few years in the mid-80s as an alternative to the Italian style brazed hanger, so there are a few simplex and mavic front derailleurs that should fit. I'll try to track one down
I also had concerns about the derailleur pivoting around the point where it meets the frame, but maybe it's not an issue in practice. If I get one i'll let you know!
It seems strange for an italian-made (columbus sp/sl) 80's frame to have adopted the french system, I can only think that it must have been made for a specific mavic/simplex groupset

Hey,
I've just got a nice Ferremi frame from eBay which I'm building up as a winter bike. It has a strange boss on the seat tube for the front mech - it seems to require a screw on mech hanger, onto which I could attach a standard bolt on mech.
I (naively!) thought this would be easy to find, but after a fair bit of google searching nothing has come up. Has anyone come across this before? Or should i ignore the screw-on boss and try to put a band-on mech above or below it?
Cheers,
Ewan
