Interesting the perception that introducing a premium tier brand, fully isolated from the main imprint means that the regular brand isn’t worth buying from because they’re wilfully withholding the good stuff.
In the early days I considered selling commodity-grade coffee under a sub-brand to protect the YBCR image because more volume would have made life much more comfortable. I resisted because it wouldn’t have brought any joy to proceedings and I’m continually glad that I did.

I’ve given up on the RO system in the shop, mostly because of the mechanical unreliability of my particular system but also:
Extremely expensive filters (~£1500 pa)
60% wastage of water
Continual need to monitor TDS and adjust bypass accordingly (having adjustable bypass means you don’t need to add minerals back in)
Slow flow rate despite using a big header tank. But it did definitely protect my equipment from limescale incredibly well and it made the drinks taste better, particularly V60. We barely sell £1500 of filter brews a year though so business.

Scored a nice clean Pro-Ject T1 at Cashies today for £70. That’ll do for the new shop to let customers loose on.
Also a nice copy of Paul & Linda’s Ram from the record fair in the pub next door.
And watched the sprint finish of the ToB in town
And going to see Jeffrey Lewis tonight. Good day to be in Northampton. Not often you can say that.

That’s good stuff thanks, I’m using a Pro-Ject Tube box phononstage which has all the MC adjustability but I’m not sure I fancy making the switch.
I’d found my way to the Orofon and the Goldring from that list, I’m tempted by both of those, but in the end I ordered a replacement stylus for the Shure as Gary found a good retailer for them. I do love that cartridge.

I have a Shure V15V-MR Cartridge which is very highly regarded and NLA. Today whilst trying to clear it of dust I broke the cantilever. Gutted. An aftermarket replacement stylus is £300, but that’s also the price of some nice complete MM cartridges. What would you do? We’re talking about some higher end Audio Technica, Grado, Nagaioka etc. lots of choice at that price.

That looks great, I’d have a V60 from him.
I do like the hi-fi simile, I’m on both sides of it. I roll my eyes at a lot of the kit talk on here just because I have a continuous stream of broken coffee kit to mend and the only thing I get excited about is user-friendliness and durability. There’s not really anything ‘bad’ in terms of cup quality out there as long as you’re putting good coffee through it.
That being said I still covet kit that my own experience tells me won’t produce a noticeable improvement after a brief honeymoon period when it comes to music so I get it. I also roll my eyes at old audio grumpies on forums who tell people new kit is a waste of money and all this stuff was perfected decades ago.

Oh blimey, don’t know, just sharp ones! I don’t really follow all this stuff. Different grinders do make very very subtly different flavours but nothing tremendously better or worse than any other.
Edit: the second one sounds more appealing to me. As soon as they start calling a component of a food processing machine iconic though I’m out!

My favourite Sunday brew is immersion method, cleaner and slower than a french press, by making cowboy coffee in a French press. No extra gadgets required.
Grind for cafetière, add water, after 5 mins sink the floating grounds with a spoon, leave for 10 mins with lid on, don’t plunge, pour gently leaving the grounds in the bottom of the pot.
Super smooth, rich and sweet.
