LFGSS and Microcosm shutting down 16th March 2025 (the day before the Online Safety Act is enforced)
@Velocio didn't i put you in touch with someone in relation to the previous legal change regarding the liability of forum hosts? Have you spoken to them lately?

Howdy dog people. Been busy with work n stuff so haven’t checked the thread much lately. Margo is now 5 and a half months and 5kg and an absolute fucking legend. I swear to god she’s practically a celebrity in our small town and she laps up every ounce of the attention. Imagine her shock when I had to leave her at home for a few minutes today…. Utterly indignant

For all my failings as as a parent, apparently i'm raising kids who think that a stake cooked rare is thee big friday night treat.
Where do we stand on crushed potatoes? As in small/new puds par-boiled, smashed flattish with fluffy bits sticking out and then roasted till crispy. Ideally with a drop of olive oil at the end and lots of flaky salt, chopped rosemary and some lemon zest.
Me and the kids are firly on the BETTER THAT CHIPS side at the moment.

Ok, nut fettled and string trees attached. Went with two in the end as I hate the ringy
behind the nut resonance thing you get when the g string doesn’t have enough downward pressure. It looks a bit fussy but I think it’s ok.Had the absolute bare minimum to do on relief, nut slot height and intonation. It’s basically spot on as is. Just wanted the corners of the nut softened and that was it. Am super happy with how it feels and sounds! Like have a new guitar that’s also an old friend. Very happy.

Not sure if @Acliff will kick off a new one of these in the new year but been awesome to see everyone's progress across the lifetime of the thread. Personally find it a great, supportive space to help with what can be quite a difficult to discuss challenge.
I'd also say that this time of year is generally filled with excess and it's more than likely we will all add a little timber over the holidays. Know that if you've done it once you can do it again, so have fun and don't sweat it too much.
eats another mince pie
amen to that dude. well done every body!

Gonna string up and do the nut this evening.
Oh also, a guitar teacher mate of mine has started sending pupils to me for guitar set-ups. I had a really gratifying experience this week where a bloke brought his son's guitar round needing a set-up.
His boy is 23 and has decided to go to music college so needed his instrument sorting out. It was a weird Fender MIJ stratty thing with a bridge humbucker and binding. It obviously hadn't had new strings maybe ever and the intonation was like a full semitone off. In fact the harmonic wasn't even over the 12th fret which had me worried for a bit i think it was just the extreme age and gunkiness of the strings.
I was able to take it from almost unplayable to *chef's kiss with a couple of hours of tinkering. It needed a little bit of fret dressingabove the 12th, a fret polish, fretboard clean and condition, action and intonation tweaking and i just happened to have the right trem arm sat in a box on unused spares so threw that in. Returned it yesterday and the bloke (who turns out to live just round the corner) was totally made-up, and brought me a properly posh bottle of wine as a thank you. All very wholesome.
I'm still doing it for free at the moment but thinking about maybe turning it into a side-hustle.
EDIT: googled it. Must have been one of these with an aftermarket humbucker:

There's a silverface reissue in my local music shop for 799 at the mo. No idea haven't had a proper lok so not sure if that's a good price or not. I do fancy trying one too. The earlier blackface RIs from the 00's were the the recived wisdom perfect small gig amp back when I spent too much time on the Telecaster Discussion Page. I don't think i've ever actually played one now that I come to think of it. I've had proper SF Twins, Pros, Champs and now a Vibrolux but I don't think i've ever played through a Deluxe Reverb... or a Princeton for that matter! Oversight.

I would happily pay a regular subscription to keep this place going. I cannot deal with twitter/X and the rest. This place is an oasis. Would also be willing to sign a legal document making it explicit that I take responsibility for posts made on here and that I understand that the web-host is not responsible. Not sure if that would be sufficient to transfer risk or if it’s scalable to the number of users that would be required to make the model work, but I would 100% be happy to do it.
