I cannot advocate strongly enough for high quality wide bars with generous sweep, and good high volume tubeless tires. That's probably all you need. For me these two things have been as profound a change as anything I've tried in the past 20 years. I'll never look back. I'd do this long before trying to find a suitable suspension fork.

After riding it today and working out what the lowest gear would be if I swap the 30/46t combo for a 36t or 38t single ring. I think I’m going to do that. It just makes more sense to me to go 1x on it.
Is the derailleur set low as possible to the rings? Is it parallel to the rings?
Is the chain a piece of crap?
What kind of chainrings?

Anyway, I haven't had a single speed for a while. Decided to take the piece of crap despite it's good looks and rat it out. Here it is halfway through the process. Will be finished next week. Needs the chain tension sorted. Probably a spring loaded tensioner.
I took it down the street just to see how it is and it really is one of those nice free flowing lazy bikes. Looking forward to it.

Got this Masi used locally. As I was going over it, I discovered it was cracked, and generally looked like it had been stored outside. Surprising because it cleaned up so well. Anyway I got it repaired at the metal work school here for very cheap. It never really became anything useful it just hung in my shed for a couple years.

I'm not sure if you mean something else by 'darning' but i get the crotch reinforced with patches in all my trousers because cycling at the local dry cleaners for £12
its more than a patch.

Out of curiosity, what about the crotch?
I've realised that every pair of non-baggy jeans I've had have blasted through the crotch. Some faster than the others, but all without fail.
Never tried insanely heavy weight denim as I get quite claustrophobic in restrictive clothes.
No true cotton denim lasts with biking, if that's what you're asking. that said, i just get the crotch darned for 15 bucks and its good as new for another few years.
the heavy weight denim takes a year to even start to break in and can feel quite restrictive.
truth is i was thinking of the tapered pants for @Nef from Tellason when i suggested it. theyre great.
https://www.tellason.com/other-pants/a lot of the selections from tellason have videos of actual non-model humans wearing them.

100% this is what I’m after. But also trying to not dress in all black like I have done forever.
I know muted green/blue/grey isn’t exactly colour explosion but it’s progress.
Without sounding stupid, I basically just have to go out shopping and looking don’t I?
Trying to look online seems so endless and tricky. But I’m struggling to even find a start point.Start with basics that can be worn frequently. Good simple heavy weight raw denim straight fit jeans, pants, plain t-shirts, functional footwear.
If you're hard on clothes like I am, then get things that age well. Heavy weight good denim, for example. Don't get white tailored chinos because they look fresh in the shop. It won't last. Once you get the basics, then get the white chinos.
Tellason in the US is probably exactly what you're looking for. Very high quality. Ages well. Looks good new and after 10 years. And age appropriate. I'm less picky about tellason pricing because it literally lasts decades and gets better with time. Strong recommend.
https://www.tellason.com/I also love Todd Snyder but this is way less hard wearing and durable. I frequently check out the sales because most of it is too expensive for my abusive use.
https://www.toddsnyder.com/If you want to go off the deep end of American style, check out black bear brand. It's kidney donation pricing but so so good.

I'm looking for a working class 1/8 single speed ring for it, should anyone have suggestions.

I always to liked the idea. Years ago I used to run full length on the outside of the frame to keep the cables clean in muddy conditions. Didn't work that well. But I'm sure you're right and that's things have improved.
@fredtc I was looking at that ti frame last night. Agree it looks awesome.
I'm actually moving back to New England in June. Couldn't be more excited. Grew up riding in Connecticut in the 80s and 90s.
