surround is silly imo in standard residential settings. sell all your surround crap and buy better 2-channel.
I've recently bought a FiiO X1 after being pissed off at the crappy music players on phones (iphones are ok, android and windows SUCK)
It's great. interfaces and stuff aren't super slick, kind of chinese and beta-feeling functional, but works really well with isyncer to move music onto it, and sounds brilliant. Recommend, and pretty good value if you've already got SD cards kicking round. -

what's the current skinny on ATACs? I've bent an axle on my ROC/Xs and notice they have been discontinued, likely cos the axles are made out of playdoh/I put out an un-managable number of watts.
looks like the alium and ROCs have been replaced with cheaper versions of the square bar ones, but can't see them available anywhere yet. Commuting in keos is getting kind of boring. -
this is easy stuff. I use an ancient mac mini with itunes, a NAS and USB dac attached to my main stereo. Control is by phone or ipad ('remote' app) and have extended it into the kitchen with an airport express. Basically a cheap sonos, but no high rez support or anything fancy.
I still buy cds and rip them,as I find a better selection of music still on hard copy and I just like buying cds and vinyl. If there was a product that could provide additional streaming functionality using my existing kit I'd be very interested. -

finally got my 'winter' training fixed built now summer's here. It's a sonic cycles track frame with a nice high BB.
went a bit nuts from alexscycle for the drivetrain, boxfresh 75s and cycroc hubs on TB14s. columbus 1" carbon fork is lovely, and it's completely silent except for the rattling of the cable stop holder in the LH brake lever. rides brilliantly. Might get a red paintjob in the future as I'm not a big fan of the black but not necessary atm.
solid advice here, apart from the bit about the train. Avoid avoid, it's really crap and slow.
hire or buy a car and drive yourself, bus/train etc are really limited and you miss a lot of the good bits.
