A 318 would be a good shout anyway and if it's cheap with a fresh ticket then you can't really lose, mileage is of little concern if the car has been well looked after. Tax is no longer transferable to a new owner.

I like the 996, but as investment at £25k to sit in the garage I don't see it. The 911 market is already artificially high with investors who want the cars that exist to be polished, the 996 will always top out below the aircooled cars in that regard and then there's the potential for engine problems (or at least the market's concern about the potential). At £12k it'd make a decent bet though.
@TRA The sensible choices for sure, but I'd go for that DB7 as the dark horse with massive potential.

I know people who've replaced springs on their Golfs, but anecdotal evidence is no use to anyone and springs breaking has become very common these days. Are VW using Titanium? If we want to talk suspension Ford fitted IRS to the mk1 Focus whereas VW spent their entire budget making the dash plastics in the mk4 Golf look nice. Depends what you're after I suppose

I'd take a Focus over something VAG. More reliable, get more car for your money and cheaper to fix if it goes wrong. 1.6 petrol or TDCI will both be great.
Or something like this would be a great motorway cruiser and most likely go on forever

Looks like a great project! A very similar idea to my Specialized E5 build, just a bit larger! Forks wise I'm always looking out for a genuine used 3T funda with enough steerer, which would suit the 'dale too I reckon.
I like the cages, just get the sandpaper on them.

I quite like the new C, looks classy with little wheels and no bodykit just like a Merc should and the interior looks like a big improvement.
928s are lush, but that Strosek is grim. Leggy GTs were 5-8k last I looked, shame.

It's almost certainly how it would turn out if I built it (which is why I wouldn't). All concept and no execution (I love that he even used the correct Rover climate control panel).
Unfortunately I can't forgive him, given the wheels on that GT4.
