I'm all for civil rights for everyone, obviously. Everyone is, until they are victims of violent crime, then it gets a bit harder.

Derailing the thread a bit here, sorry.

Given that yesterday some of my wife's family had their house burgled at gunpoint by a gang who also hit their 8 yr old son, I am less keen on the civil rights of those with illegal weapons in their possession than I used to be.

So, I gave it a go. I posted something earlier, but the pics were crap. I had them scanned at my local camera shop and they came out a lot better.

As before, this is my first ever 5x4 shoot, and my first ever processing anything myself, so, as I said before "Fuck yeah"

So, I went to the CameraFair in Beaconsfield last Sunday, and came back with a 5x4 monorail (with a really crappy lens and shutter) and a couple of double dark slides. On Monday I aquired some darkcloth from Southall Market.

All I need now is
a) film
b) processing kit (I thought I'd do this using the "taco" method in a developing tank.
c) chemicals

Was looking at the Tillmans stuff yesterday as well. I didn't rate him when he was doing Kate Moss (as it were) but read an interview with him (in Vogue?) and was impressed at the amount of work he puts into getting to know his subjects, and his low tech kit.

I bought some Tibetan felt booties to use as house slippers from a bloke on Camden market a few years ago. Where can I buy another pair in London or mail order?

In a spree of drunk shopping today I have come home with Tom Wood's "Men and Women". Very nice indeed.

What other books do the forum rate highly? Instructional books don't count.

Thanks for the info. Hoping to go to Silverprint on Monday and spend rather a lot of money on stuff. I've got the hols to play, and will hopefully have something to show next week - eek!

Any suggestions for where to get all the above on the cheap? Before Christmas? Does anyone do this large format + home processing stuff who can give me some hints?

Nice shot.

The hair looking like a shadow on the background is the only thing which is distracting.

The skin looks like porcelain - the model will be pleased. I like the background - it looks like it was shot in someone's home, not a studio - and so adds a bit of intimatcy.

Have you had it printed? I bet it would look great printed straight off the negative.

I know I like cameras more than taking pictures. I like taking pictures more than looking at them afterwards.

Nooooo! I haven't even got a LF camera, but I would take that. Spent all weekend looking at suitable cameras on E...y, but can't justify spending shedloads of money on something I can't use.

Anyone got any suggestions for a LF course - preferably West London or further out?

Got some 5x4 slide you can have cheap ;)

your first shot is a static shot of two men locked together and not moving. So, to go alongside it, I would show the same two men, flying though the air, so it has to be the second scottish picture.

But, since you've asked the opinion of people you've never met...
have you considered showing only the two "second choice" pictures, I think they go well together without the "first choice" photo.

And a show - well done - good luck whatever you show.

Yes, you need a shim, ask at any decent bike shop. Personally I'd go for the plastic option - whats the point of paying for a carbon seatpost and then remitting the weight saving by using a heavy metal shim?

Plus it's less likely to chip/scratch the post and introduce a weakness.

What the hell is wrong with wearing a second hand suit? My brother got an amazing suit second hand and had it altered. It looked fantastic.

Point taken, which is why I asked about how much time he had. And I agree, a wedding suit should look fantastic.

The Romanian charity shop on teddington has good stuff, as do the charity shops in Kingston, but they get snapped up quickly.

The key word is "fantastic".
