I just built my best pal her first proper hifi,
In my 35 year experience buying used speakers can be a bit of a gamble, if they've been abused or dropped the damage to the voice coil can't be seen, if you buy them new you know they're good and look after them,
Plus they're what you actually listen to, so buying a decent set is a good basis for a system,https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/standmount-speakers/monitor-audio-bronze-1-black.html
I made her buy these, they're really very good for the money, and will stand a fair few upgrades in the future,
Buy the speakers and put them away until you can afford an amp for them,
The logic being, just buy something good and be happy with it, -

Hi-Fi is like anything else, comes down to taste, if you like what you like that is what is important,
A friend of mine has a tube based system, to me it sounds awful, no dynamism, zero rhythm, everything played on it sounds sickly sweet and falsely coloured, and it's as ugly to look at as an oil rig,
But some people like oil rigs, and some people like the taste of saccharine, and he loves the way his system sounds, he probably thinks my modest little set-up sounds too clinical and clean,
Enjoy what you have, it's all a load of bollocks really,
I do think though, the deeper you go into the audiophile thing, the more you start concentrating on listing to the system, and less about enjoying the music.

Could advise what this actually is please?
I love it for what it is and it's a very pretty thing, just really curious as to what it might have started out as?
Thanks for any help offered,
