Jeez - At the risk of starting pages of debate, I actually think this is more the opposite. They appear not to want to spend the time or the money sorting out the cause of the problems. So they just eliminate the conflict with a blanket sanction. From the outside, it might seem a sensible option. But that's definitely not my opinion. I fear it's more head-in-the-sand mentality from Boris HQ and associates, ignoring that the design of some of the infrastructure in central London is poor at best and dangerous at worst.

Ninja MTB rider on Euston Rd last night undertook me at York Gate lights. Then a little further up the road at Regents Park, he cut around a stationary bus, pulling out in front of white HGV cab with RH Freight trailer. Excellent awareness and driving by the HGV driver avoided a very nasty collision.

Sptember 23rd 2013. 8:15pm to 9:15pm
This is interesting, the same Andy Jones posted this:
That's to show how dangerous rickshaws are by showing a taxi smashing into them at high speed, which is missing the point by a country mile!
Hang on. My teacup must be dangerously unsafe for hot liquids because it melts when I pour molten magma into it... WAC

Nice to hear the Met are consistent in their approach...
I realise they can't apply everything, as they neither have the manpower nor appetite for it. But it appears to me that this reactionary 'crackdown' is just causing upset and confusion for all, rather than addressing any one problem. Or maybe that's the idea?

Desperately sad, heartbreaking news. My thoughts go out to the rider, their family and their friends - and to all of those affected in the recent past.
I really hope that the public in general does not become desensitised to hearing this type of tragic news, as I fear it will, and that something can be done to end this type of senseless and avoidable loss of life.
Be safe everyone.

Isn't the key to being seen to contrast with the background? The eye is drawn to things that stand out, as well as to movement (and the occasional attractive ped). Therefore, shouldn't any contrasting colour do the trick? I suppose the argument is that there are very few buildings, cars and hedgerows that are fluorescent yellow. So it leaves the standard hi-vis palette as a pretty good contrast for most occasions, as unpleasant as it may look to some.
Having said that, I do tend to wear whatever I have to hand and put the lights and reflectives on the bike. And to come back to topic, I do wear a lid while commuting, with some more reflective tape. Though admittedly my helmet wearing is probably more out of habit from off-roading than a conscious desire to appear responsible to the masses. I am happy to stand corrected and change my ways if this is all a load of rubbish!

Mount them somehow on a front or rear rack maybe? Could mean some awkward crouching silly walk to pull it along though, dependent on the bike. How about using a skateboard wheels/axle assembly?
Some bikes wheels will rotate freely when folded. So you may be able to use the bike's own wheel, if you ensure no fouling.
Which type of foldy have you got Jobsworthy?

Please could someone of a legal persuasion explain why is an activity that occupies the driver's attention and/or interferes with operation of a vehicle not classed as dangerous driving?
Surely the decision to undertake such an activity (e.g. speeding, eating, operation of mobile equipment, applying makeup, reading, etc.) is a conscious one? So with the driver being consciously aware their action will hinder their ability to drive safely, does this not make it 'dangerous' rather than 'careless'?
So is it the interpretation of the law in these cases, rather than the law itself, that is at fault?

Has anyone questioned the double-standard of one set of road users (such as on this particular route) being issued with £50 FPNs, but others (such as those encroaching into ASLs) being given nice, friendly advice and leaflets, which they will never read? Nice work this pick-and-choose policing, isn't it? Not confusing in the slightest?
