Cool project - however here’s some thoughts:
- the connecting plugs for EPS are about 7mm diam, which means at least an 8mm hole (larger probably as you won’t be able to use magnets to guide) at each entry/exit point on the frame. 8mm hole in a skinny steel chainstay 🤔
- the BB shell will need to house 2 EPS cables. These would be from the battery (seatpost), one to the RD, one going toward the headtube. It might be a squeeze fitting the cables around the cranks axle.
- EPS cable connections aren’t intended to be outside of the frame, so the stick on Di2 routing option I’d miss unless you are certain the bike won’t ever see a wet wash or rain
- IMO the best option would be checking with your frame builder to see whether the DS chainstay/BB shell can be replaced/amended to something larger to cater for internal routing. It would be such a nice build if this can be done 🫡

It’s a keeper for sure!!! Here’s another pic. Went with the 3TTT Titanium stem. Hoping to get a titanium post aswell at some point @retrodicorsa 🫡

Had the Colnago built for a week - ticked over 300km on it now and I’m super happy with the fit and ride quality.
Definitely doesn’t have the same kick as the Lynskey but feedback from the road is amazing. Dancing on the pedals is a joy. The frame almost gives something back when out the saddle, not in a spongey way but in a springy way.
Well aware it’s criminal but it fits 25mm tyres with guards also!

Price seems good to me. I picked mine up for the same kind of price (2003 Orbea Mitis). I think the bikes are massively underrated considering they were on par with Discovery Treks, T Mobile Pinarello etc..
Apologies for the bad photo but this is mine. I think a tell tale sign of the one you’ve shown to make it 2004 or newer is the integrated headset where as mine is external.

Niiiice - yeh this is an Orbea Starship. Columbus starship tubing. Some of them had carbon seat stays and chainstays. Hard to find info on them to be honest, the name changed sporadically from Orbea Lobular > Zeus > Starship. Likely from 2004 /2005 ish based on the paint job. Looks like a sloping TT also rather than the earlier ones with horizontal

Picked up something from @retrodicorsa
😬 Always wanted a high end steel Colnago. This one is a keeper !
On the hunt for a nice quill stem. Something like an ITM Eclypse (I’ve heard these are super stiff and feel most like a modern set up) but not sure about going with chrome as I want the focus to be on the frame. Recommendations?

From memory (not the best memory😂)- Cut off is 1987 for Eroica. Chainset is 7400, not 7700 Octalink but the brakes are definitely early 90’s 7403 series (when they launched STI’s )
My intention is to use the bike with STI as soon as I’ve done the event , and also was too scared of using 80’s calipers for 3000m of dusty climbing and descending. Point noted RE the spirit, but this is so much older than anything I’ve ever used 😂😂😂
Wow. This is so sweet! Some shallow section rims would finish it off very nicely.
What are the handlebars??
