the HSE order of prevention was on one of the blogs and is mentioned a lot when compulsory helmets are brought up.
Can't help but think those in charge of finding a solution will take this literally if it is waved in front of them enough, and simply eliminate the issue by banning cycling fullstop......
Ha! I agree that sometimes it feels like those with the power to do something will use every possible opportunity or reason not to do something. Though I do think the hierarchy provides an excellent guide as to how we should tackle the problem. It's not that the hierarchy is wrong, it's just that politicians are cnuts, and they'd stay cnuts who don't do anything if the hierarchy or I didn't exist.
In the meantime, yes, the answer is big fucking guns.

One particular point to note is that while private car owners might continue to drive their own cars for a while to come, taxi firms will make the switch as soon as possible. The savings to them will be significant enough to make it worthwhile and the occupation of taxi driver will be eliminated.
This will get everyone else used to being in an interacting with driverless cars and they will then feel more comfortable to get their own when the time comes.

That said, if lots of cyclists didn't jump red lights BoJo and the rozzers wouldn't be wasting such a load of time and money trying to clamp down on it and might actually be doing something worthwhile.
Reminding me of innumerably frothy mouthed letters to local newspapers complaining that speeding fines and parking fines are just a money raising exercise. "I have a good mind to obey the law at all times, that'll show them!"

The incident occurred on the A403 St Andrews Road/Kingsweston Lane at around 7pm.
A male cyclist was in collision with a lorry and died at the scene.
The driver of the lorry, a 37-year-old man, has been arrested and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A cyclist was killed in a road accident involving a minibus in Newbridge yesterday.
Police are appealing for information following the fatal road traffic collision on the A472 at Newbridge.
The collision, between a cyclist and a mini bus, happened at about 8.05pm. The cyclist and mini bus were travelling in the same direction toward Newbridge when the incident happened.

Whilst I agree that jailing this driver is unlikely to make a difference to how he will drive in future, it remains that the message the sentence sends out is that killing a cyclist is nothing more than an inconvenience to a driver so long as they really didn't mean to do it.
The comments of the defending barrister are what really gets me though. "There but for the grace of God go I....the sort of accident that can happen to anybody" legitimises killing cyclists as just one of those things that happens nobody, not even the guy who took his eyes off the road for 9 seconds at 70mph is to blame.

Charlie - I can't do it by vulnerable user mode as the dataset only includes cyclists, this is due to a decision I made at the beginning to make it manageable, and concentrate on cyclists. The STATS19 tables have hundreds of thousands of rows I don't think my laptop would have coped with it.

Agreed,but I'm not sure if it is the first or the last line of defence. Assuming a driver is a psychopath, no conscience, only concerned with self interest the only thing stopping them from running you down is the belief they will bear the costs of it.
There is a moral hazard to driving, without the law the driver actually benefits from putting you at risk, whether by speeding, passing closely etc. They accrue the benefits but not the risk, like gambling with someone else's money and being allowed to keep any winnings.
This is why sentencing for road offences is an issue being pushed by campaigners.
