Can only speak from personal experience, but. There will always be mechanical imperfections (the stack bolt have to be narrower than the hole they pass through so there will be play there also) and when chain tension, slack to taught, can be under a millimetre of travel on the drops any miss alignment on the spider would have a substantial influence.
-
i had similar and read on sheldon that loosening all the chain ring bolts and tapping the chain when the ring is at its most taught will bring the ring more in alignment on the crank arm. give this ago maybe?
Centering Chainwheels
The chain tension on a fixed gear is quite critical, and is regulated by moving the rear axle back and forth in the forkends. If the chain is too tight, the drivetrain will bind, perhaps only at one angle of the pedals (chainwheels are not usually perfectly concentric). It should be tight as it can be without binding. If the chain is too loose, it can fall off, which is quite dangerous on a fixed gear.Set the rear axle so that the chain pulls taut at the tightest part of the cranks' rotation. One at a time, loosen up each of the stack bolts, and tighten it back just finger tight. Spin the crank slowly and watch for the chain to get to its tightest point. Strike the taut chain lightly with a convenient tool to make the chain ring move a bit on its spider. Then rotate the crank some more, finding the new tightest spot, and repeat as necessary.
This takes a little bit of your hands' learning how hard to hit the chain, and how loose to set the stack bolts, but it is really quite easy to learn.
Tighten up the stack bolts a bit and re-check. Tighten the stack bolts in a regular pattern, like the lug nuts on a car wheel. My standard pattern is to start by tightening the bolt opposite the crank, then move clockwise 2 bolts (144 degrees), tighten that one, clockwise 2 more, and so on. Never tighten two neighboring bolts in a row. You may prefer to go counterclockwise, but try to get in the habit of always starting at the same place and always going the same way. This reduces the chances of accidentally missing a bolt.
Once you have the chainrings centered and secured, adjust the position of the rear axle to make the chain as nearly tight as possible without binding. Notice how freely the drive train turns when the chain is too loose. That is how freely it should turn when you are done, but with as little chain droop as possible.

Was riding fast downhill while the ground was a bit moist and as I was going into a hard corner, felt the bike lose a bit of traction (was going a bit too fast and cornering too hard), had a tiny wobble, regained control but was too late and ended up kissing a lampost/railings on that corner -- face first. People that seen me mash my face called an ambulance and the day ended with me having a nasty cut (11 stitches) between my eye and eyebrow, massive black eye + swelling, sore jaw and surprisingly, very little damage to bike (instant puncture and the lip of the rim is slightly bent at 2 parts). All in all, a shit experience but certainly made me appreciate and respect ambulance service a lot more and when I can finally see from my right eye and I get back on the road, I certainly won't be pulling hard corners like that anymore.
Heal quick, hope those dint haven't weakened your rim.
To paraphrase the (sods)law of cornering you get more and more confident then skid out and start all over again!

Kid stepped out from behind parked car chasing a ball, I didn't see the kid in time but saw the ball so pulled a bit further out and as he appeared in vision then broke hard, skipped past him on front wheel drifting toward middle of the road. Went back after collecting myself and kindly ask the kid to be more careful and explained if I hit him it would have caused serious harm. hopefully its lesson learned

I have a question, I am starting to notice that my chain ring is becoming more ovalised (difference in chain tension is becoming more noticeable). I was wondering if I undo the bolts and rotate my ring 1 or 2 holes would this balance out the ware or would this you make the chain more likely to hop off. Currently the chain is tightest with peddles vertical...
