Hi all, been a while.
I'm selling my beloved Pagoda. Bought in April last year, ridden until July. Selling because I still can't cycle properly due to my crash in late June. Since buying the bike I've upgraded the pedals, handlebars and tyres/tubes. Front wheel has a gatorskin tyre, ridden for about 15 miles. Rear wheel has a Schwalbe marathon, ridden for around 50 miles. Fitted with Brick Lane Bikes bullhorn handlebars and a gold finger front brake lever. This bike has a flip flop hub, so you can go from fixed gear to freewheel, but no back brake. Pagoda is a bit of a beater: chipped paint work, one pedal clip is broken. Could do with new grip tape and a lick of paint. Since I bought it, I've spent around £150 on the bike. Selling for £150.
To any potential buyer, I want everyone to be aware that she does need some TLC and possibly a new bottom bracket. I've got no interest in being deceitful or ripping anyone off. Anyone who wants to take her for a test ride in the car park of my building is welcome. She's rideable and is a great beater.
Edit: trying to figure out how to add photos from my iPad (excuse the douchebaggery, my PC no longer works)
She's black and I'm happy to send photos via email to anyone interested.

Morning all.
I'm replacing my chain today on my Fixie. Gear ratio is 48x14. In the last week I've had two blown tyres and last night my brake cable snapped. I'm fairly certain my chain is the next thing that's going to give up on me so I'm replacing it before it happens while I'm riding just to be sure.
I've got no idea how to remove/replace a chain. Anyone got tips or advice or a how to?
Cheers.

I think it's nice to own something that you've worked hard for, either at work so you can actually buy it, or because you've spent months finding the right parts for a build, which takes money any way. Especially since most cyclists in London ride pretty much every day. I definitely get the money's worth out of my bike. It's not a particularly nice bike and it's not in particularly in great condition, but I worked hard so I could buy it and buy some parts for it, so I'm proud of it.
I think a lot of people on this board earn their gear and work hard putting it all together. I mean, someone might spend £xyz on something they don't really NEED, but if its for their bike then it'll probably get a lot of use. People spend a shit tonne of money on useless and extravagant things and use them once.
I'd say there's a materialistic element to it, but I guess it depends on whether you're making your bike nicer for yourself, or for the guy at the lights to say "nice bike mate."

From tyre just blew out on Oxford street as I was going from Wardour Street to Newman Street. Heard a really loud hiss/bang that sounded like glass smashing. Looked around as if to say "wtf?" and then looked at my tyre. Gutted. Could've been worse. Just glad it happened outside work and not on a roundabout or something.
Anyone know of any decent bike shops in Central?

When/if I ever get back on a bike, I wouldn't dream of mounting brakes. To me riding fixed is all about simplicity at its finest; fixed gear and brakeless will always go hand in hand.
I appreciate what you're saying, but I think it's gonna take time and confidence building. Only been riding a couple of months and I still don't know London that well yet.

Just had a little spill on Clerkenwell road. Coming up to lights that were turning red. Feathering my front brake but didn't stop in time and ended up grabbing a handful of front brake. Ended up going over/to the side as I couldn't un clip and hit the back of the taxi. Got away with a grazed elbow and bent toe clips. Taxi wasn't damaged though.
Respect to the taxi driver for not flipping his shit at me and making sure I'm okay, and thanks to the group of concerned cyclists making sure I was alright. My pride hurt more than anything else. Very embarrassed.
Most embarrassing thing is this happened right outside my girlfriend's office. Luckily she didn't see haha.
Posting here because had I not been wearing a helmet, this would've been a lot lot worse.

My thoughts in this situation are usually closer to
"maybe I shouldn't have eaten that 6th cake"
