Shimano-ready Mavic Aksium Race. As close to 100% true and smooth as you can get in my opinion.
Bit of wear on the rear surface, but still plenty of life. Oddly, the front has loads left. I have tried to photograph both. Come with tubes and nearly-new Gatorskins (still some rubber bobble things left in places). No skewers unfortunately!

THIS FRAME IS DAMAGED BUT COULD POSSIBLY DO A JOB FOR SOMEBODY
So, I intended to start building this as a project, but discovered that there is a crack in the rear mech hanger. Having spoken to some frame repair guys, I can either:
- Attach a removable hanger (they quoted about £50-£60, but possible to do with hand tools apparently)
- Build as a SS w/special chain tensioner or one of them weird hubs
This is a super light frame that was very well regarded in the 90s. I think it weights somewhere around 1100-1200g. The forks and 600 headset are in pretty nice condition, and I will throw in the quill also.
The frame is anodised and could probably do with a proper clean with some spirit or whatever. There are many small chips as pictured.
£48 for everything delivered, which I think is quite reasonable considering forks and headset? BB not included

Thanks, I'm sending some pics to various builders just to see what the options are/if it's even worth it from a financial point of view.
The hanger is actually cracked as well as bent. If a frame builder says it's going to be costly/a hassle, then I'll look into the replaceable hanger solution/bodge. My dad's a retired engineer with lathes and all kind stuff in his man shed, so sure he could sort something. I spoke to him on the phone, and he actually suggested a similar plan without him having a clue about bikes or what a mech hanger was.
On a positive note, the 600 group, wheelset and forks have cleaned up really nicely, so I guess I've not really lost out financially as they will more than cover the £80.

So, I took a punt on an RSL on ebay from a guy who didn't have a clue about it. It was £80, so I thought why not? I had great ideas of getting it re-anodised and fitting with modern-ish record etc as they are ridiculously light and well-built frames, and I just like the way they look.
Anyway, went to pick it up today and was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the wheels etc, and the carbon cranks were and unexpected bonus. However, I noticed almost immediately that the rear mech hanger is buggered.
Am I right in thinking this is a pretty much fatal issue on an aluminium frame, especially a high end one such as this? (think they used special alu or something but could be wrong). I guess worst case, it could be made into some kind of single-speed affair.
Thoughts?

I'm embarking on a retro-ish weight weenie project and am after some nice and light 1" threadless carbon forks.
Looking for something like Look HSC1, Time Featherweight, Columbus minimal etc. Ideally want a carbon steerer and don't want to pay a lot! Doesn't matter if they look a bit tatty, as will probably re-spray to fit the frame.
Cheers

Another project scuppered by my need for cash...
CAAD7 R700 Optimo thingy, made in USA and weights around 1280g. I had grand ideas about having this sprayed matte black and building a budget weight weenie but I guess somebody else can take the baton on it.
Damn swish condition for age I think, just some light patina in a few places (worst pictured) and cable rub.
