Saw one of these advertised locally and couldn't resist. I believe it is a 1991 Dyna Tech Encounter. It has Dyna Tech 6020 tubes (Reynolds 653 bonded to aluminium lugs)
It is in fantastic condition looks like it's barely been used since being ridden home from the shop 26 years ago!
It is Deore LX throughout (including pedals) except for the shifters which are Deore DX. The wheelset is LX hubs laced to Rigida Laser 400 grey heat treated rims. Everything on it works beautifully as the owner was a bikeshop mechanic.
It seems amazingly original, even has the Dyna Tech seatpin. I think the tyres, saddle and grips are the only non original parts.
I love some of the features on this frame like the wishbone stays and how over engineered the head tube looks. First thing I've done is put some knobblies on it, hoping to take it out on the trails soon!
My original plan was to whack some wider modern tyres on it (Halo H-Blocks), put some riser bars on and to make it 1X8. But now I'm not sure I can bring myself to ruin it seeing as it is so timewarpy....
My new thinking is to put on a nicer saddle (Turbo maybe) and some more period grips +- the Halo H blocks.
What do folks reckon?

Building up an 853 inbred rigid single speed, only have the frame at the moment.
Need a rigid disc fork, steel or carbon for 26" wheels.
Also need a set of 26" disc compatible wheels, a long seatpost, a single speed conversion kit and some bars like titec J bars, on one mary's or fleegles and some balloon tyres like Schwalbe crazy Bobs.

So thinking of doing the Pennine Bridleway and South Downs Way, this necessitates a bit more off road capable bike that my Pre Cursa, my Caad 10 or even my London Road and sadly my beloved Pre Cursa is the weak link having not been used much recently.
So my Dolan is a blue Pre Cursa 56 TT frame, hand built (by a professional not me) Miche Primatos laced to Mavic CXP-33s - totally bomproof wheelset, Columbus Tusk forks, 105 front brake with tektro lever, sugino chainset, profile design bull horns with splash bar tape (sorry, but at least it's genuine Cinelli) and an original white Turbo saddle. Also sorry for heavily filtered/ non drive side/ bit rubbish photos but best i've got on my phone.
Looking for £320

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. Planning on doing it summer so hopefully the ground will be a bit firmer.
By the sounds of it I could just about get away with it on my London Road with cross tyres but may be a bit uncomfortable.Sounds like I'd be better off if I could source a cheap but decent mtb. (Plus excuse to get another bike)

Wasn't sure where the right place to ask was, delete if it's not here.
Has anyone done the Pennine Bridleway or the south downs way? I'm looking to do one/both in the near future. How off road capable does the bike need to be. At the moment the most all terrain of my bikes is a planet x london road. I'm assuming this wouldn't be able to handle either.
My question is could I do both on a cheap 90s rigid fork mtb or do i need to buy a proper hard tail MTB?
