Archie Wilkinson do the best and cheapest wheels in that size. The business is part of a wheel factory, they can build you a custom wheel with hub gears if you wish also.
Nice people, supporting a niche bike sport for the love of it.
Thanks for that - I've emailed them to find out what they have in.

Bit of a long shot, but I'm after a 26 x 1 1/4 alloy rear wheel, ideally with a flip flop hub or anything single speed. I've seen a few floating around so I know they exist, if rarely. Weinmann rims were the main ones, I think. Thanks!
P.S. for context, this is what it'll be going on:
(1935 Raleigh Sports that I want to revert to a SS after a PO 'upgraded' it to a Sturmey Archer AW hub in the early 50s)

I'm thinking of turning up with a smallish loop framed BSA 30s or 40s ladybike, front brake needs work, otherwise a damn good beater - £25
... and another complete bike, but something a whole lot nicer- 1998 reynolds 853 Joe Waugh lugged road frame 60x57.5 in white enamel, with: time 1" carbon fork, full 9speed DA group, Aksium wheelset with white Randos, ASK seatpin, itm bars & Profile stem.
Anyone interested in either?
The ladybike sounds interesting - might see you there!

a 1978Claud Butler... which had been chucked out (the blue one)
and a 1935 New Hudson.. which i saw on a building site and the site agent let me have it once the purchace of the site was completed (the back one).
Dear God... what are you doing with the Hudson? Looks like a great bike... rather jealous... :P

I was going to post this on "oh shit" but everyone there is (rightly) talking about dj's recent close shave. This one is minor...
Riding up Rosebery Avenue, toward the junction of Amwell Street, line of traffic waiting. I am filtering up the left, slowly, particularly as I pass vans or buses (where I can't see if anyone might be trying to cross in front of the stationary vehicle). There's a fella on a road bike right behind me, which is where he has been ever since the Mount Pleasant traffic lights. I keep looking around at him, he should have gathered I don't think he should be there, but he is still there.
And whoops, someone is about to step out from in front of the UPS van, I see her and stop on the spot (discs innit?). Next thing is Mr. Roadie comes through airborne, followed by his bike. Hits the vans wing mirror I think, and sort of lands in front of me. His bike is leaning on my elbow, he is lying on the floor saying "ow".
He gets up and goes to the pavement, I hand him his bike. Said pedestrian is asking if he is OK. I figure he is OK, and getting sympathy, so I ride on. Felt a bit bad for doing that, maybe I should have said thanks for (A) stopping and (B) missing me as he flew past. Mind you, he should have not been up my ass like that.
Pretty much the exact same thing happened to me here in Oxford, just the guy managed to stop by cycling directly into my right leg at speed... and then he had the cheek to turn round and start swearing at me!! Just glad he didn't hit my bike ;)
