My greetings and welcome to Cyprus.
I was able to find this information which may be of some value to you:
http://www.visitcyprus.com/media/eBrochures/High/Leaflet_cycling_in_Cyprus_lrg.pdfCyclist magazine did a very nice article on a recent trip to Cyprus. Would you have any way of finding a copy. This is the side of the guys who hosted them
http://www.bikincyprusadventures.com/en/news/131-cyclist-magazine-the-big-ride-cyprus
I am sure they will be able to answer all your questions.
In general July and August are very warm (mid 30s to low 40s) so cycling from 11am to 4 pm is not advisable.
In terms of road cycling Troodos mountain is very good (nice scenery, smooth tarmac and roads not very busy during weekdays). The climb to Macheras mountain is also nice.
I am not into mountainbiking so I wouldn't be any help on that. The only thing I know is that there are numerous downhill and cross country paths and there are no restrictions on where you can go or what you can do. You can search for Cyprus downhill on you Tube and talk to the guys commenting under the videos.
Hope that helps

So 48 chainring with the 13-29 at the back! I am wondering whether it will limit the top speed.

I ve been going back and forth on this one due to the high costs involved in doing it properly. I feel that it doesnt make much sense to be investing further in a 10 speed group.
I also don't fancy the idea of an over-stretched RD.
I am wondering whether this could give me sufficient/acceptable gear range:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Campagnolo-Centaur-12-27-Cassette-10-speed-latest-lighter-type-alloy-carrier-/321103449070?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item4ac341cbeeI am guessing it will also work ok with the Compact chainset and the short RD.
I guess I will only be able to answer this one if I buy/install the cassette and I climb the same mountain that killed me last time (with the 11-25).

I am guessing that the reason why so many people chose to go for this unorthodox setup is the ridiculous cost of a new chorus/records 10sp rear derailleur.
A 10 sp chorus RD/cassette and chain would cost more than an 11sp ultegra group (and I am not trying to suggest that the two are equal...nor I am trying to get the good old campag vs. shimano debate going again)

I've run a 13-29 with a short cage chorus 10sp mech. Absolutely no problems on my bike with standard chain rings up front. So, I'd think that, unless you have mega long chain stays, you shouldn't have any probs.
And, as you're getting the casette anyway, you may as we'll try it before splashing out on a new mech too!
Thanks for the feedback!
Were you ever using the large ring in the front with 29T in the back??
If my chain is optimised for my current setup (was installed by my LBS) should I be buying a new chain as well?
Would you by any chance have the cassette available to sell :) -

Unfortunately its short !!!
Also most centaur 10sp cassettes I can find online are either 27t or 30t!
Google is worth a try .. :)
no, its not as good as LFGSS :)
Jokes aside its not always straight forward how to search for this things (i.e. how to write the search)!
I will post a wanted and a trade thread to see of anything comes up!

Greeting to the forum!
I have joined a group ride recently during which I have realised that my compact chainset (50/34) with my rear cassette (11-25) are not giving me the range I need (for my level of fitness).
I want to get an 13-29 cassette (don't seem to be able to find a 13-28) but I am not sure if my RD (pictured below) can handle the range. I believe I have a Chorus 10sp short cage which per Campagnolo can handle up to 26T.
Does anyone have a clue if it will work in practice??
If not any ideas on how to solve this without spending a small fortune??Feel free to offer for sale cassettes and RDs if you have any going spare!
Cheers
George
