The chamois is in the wrong place. It's too far forward (as you might be able to speculate from the photos, meaning it comes up the front of your crotch, and doesn't actually reach your arse.

Thanks nodachi - sounds like 2 near misses there. Really need to be black and there's a lot of 105 going on the bike so the first ones you mention do sound good. Will they take 34/50 rings, or is the bcd too big?

Looking for a black 10 speed compact chainset, crank length 170 or 172.5mm with 34/50 chainrings. It's going on a newish bike, so needs to be in very good condition, ideally one taken off a new bike for an upgrade.

Don't mind square taper or ext bearing type, but it needs to suit a frame with a conventional threaded British 68mm BB shell.

'Taster sessions' on Newport Velodrome are ideal for first timers and only cost a tenner including bike hire for an hour and you get a qualified coach for the whole session. Group size is around 10 or 12 max, but I did one once and only two of us turned up! Brilliant value.
The 'drome is a couple of miles from Newport railway station, so not a massive problem to get there from Cardiff if you jump on the train. There's probably a bus from the station to the track, but I can't confirm this is the case.

At least Cardiff is relatively flat for riding fixed. Carms & Pembs can be a bit more, errr, ....challenging.

Riding fixed? There's a bit of a fixed uprising spreading to West Wales. Urban Cyclery stock some nice fixed gear stuff.
