Perhaps I didn't explain, these aren't my views but views of people I talk to and a lifetime of living amongst them.
You'd be really surprised at the strength of feeling towards 'immigrants and asylum seekers' and the depth of genuine belief that 'they come here and get a free house and benefits whilst our own have to wait'.
It's caused huge riots in my nearest towns of Burnley and Blackburn. And there was a large inquiry into why it happened which basically concluded that the mutual feelings towards BME's was too ingrained to change or as to why the area is the way it is.
What I really struggle to come terms with is the feelings of xenophobia / racism only seems to extend towards the poor. The same people who have these strong views towards the poor BME's will sing the praises of Drs or solicitors from the same BMEs.

Tbf, that isn't a one way street. As was pointed out way back in those thread, we have UK highly trained professionals, scientists, Drs etc etc leaving the UK to work elsewhere for a better standard of living.
Tbh, who can blame them and this is what I don't get by people who voted Brexit due to immigration. They understand and accept and are envious of people leaving the UK to possibly have a higher standard of living and grasp the ideology of that being a positive thing. But can't take that idea and apply it to people coming here. It's as if they're placing their morals and ethics on some sort of pricing / value model....
He's ok he's a Dr, she's ok she's an academic researcher.....he can get too fuck he's a labourer. Isn't that what farmers do at cattle markets?

Hmmm, I don't remember saying abandon R&D. As I understand it from the news, isn't quite a lot of the funding for R&D (I include sciences in this) coming from EU partnerships? And what will happen to this funding if we do end up leaving the single market. Which seems likely to happen as that's an under pinning principle of the EU and EEC, and quite clearly the Brexit vote seems to have been won on the premis of shutting down our borders.
I really hope that Germany still wants our engineering exports once this debacle settles down - according to the government's figures they're our largest engineering customer. -

I agree in principle, but I recently had to buy some new power tools for a large project. I'm used to using the 'best' and never purchased anything except Festo when I was a tradesman. I was convinced by the sales guy I used to deal with that I didn't need to buy Festo as the cheaper brands had caught up quality wise.
So my worry is that we are too far behind, and now due to the massive investment and progress China and India has made in their R&D sectors and they can churn out high quality items far cheaper than we can.

He has absolutely no chance whatsoever of being in Yellow after tomorrow let alone Paris.
