Just wondering what the forests are like, are they Hammock friendly (8' x 4' minimum open space between trees) or have fucked up choosing hammocks coz trees are too tightly planted.

Fair enough. I do cringe when I see people DIY-ing front discs onto rim brake forks though. This is because when I had Genesis Croix I had to buy some bolt replacements for the QRs. Every time I broke hard the the wheel would twist out of the fork ends. So the forces must be quite high and I'm not convinced regular forks won't end in disaster at some point.

Discs are far superior braking to rims, especially in the wet - no arse clenching moments waiting for the film of water to clear before the bite of the blocks on the rim.

I think the winds that are forecast will make this an exciting one to watch. I'm not sure if it's possible to plan anything solid except stay at front as much as possible and maximise any opportunities.

The 9% I'm thinking of are the two 3 milers that lead up to my village on the top. And there's a sign that says its 13% which according to RWGPS and BikeHike is wrong.

No matter which angle I look at either hill, they just don't look anywhere as steep as they do on The TdF.

OT slightly: are the gradients on inclines different or does the telly make 9% look steeper than a typical 9% in the UK?

A worshop with no impact driver? Really? Wow. I suppose if the customer is willing to pay an hours labour for 2 minutes work with an impact driver (which can be bought for a tenner iirc) then why not.

Ben at Kinetics, who does A LOT of rear triangle swaps says that 99% of the time an impact driver does the job. Maybe you doing something wrong Ed?

I'm pretty lucky as most of my riding or commuting is rural and the roads into Manchester are pretty wide so narrow bars aren't necessary. The wide bars and bar ends (that's right bar ends on riders, it's all good, we cool?) help stave off hand pain / pins needles.
